The capital of India, former capital of several empires in ancient times and one of the oldest continuously inhabited regions in the world. Here we see the largest mosque in India, the war memorial at India Gate, the Red Fort and Humayan's Tomb and take the opportunity to embark on rickshaw rides into the more remote areas to see the Old World lifestyles of locals.
Heading away from the capital, we make route for Varanasi on the banks of the Ganges, a city that has acted as the religious capital of the Hindu faith since its very foundation; with more than 2,000 temples and shrines, mazes of ancient alleyways, domes and towers, Varanasi makes for a fascinating tour destination for cultural exploration. In the "Pink City" of Jaipur - so named for its painted buildings - we come across a diverse array of architectural style as we view palaces and temples and those booking on the February/March will have the chance to attend the colorful Elephant Festival.
Travelers booking in November need not fret at missing out on this magical event; participating in the Pushkar Camel Fair will be more than compensation! Whenever you book, we'll also be exploring the country's largest city, Mumbai, and get our fill of natural and historic wonder in the Ajanta Caves.
