This wonderful adventure combines the pleasure of discovering the marvelous landscapes of Italy's northern regions with the exhilaration of exploring highly memorable historic and cultural sites in some of the world's most rewarding cities. A land of variety and richness, Northern Italy promises much and doesn't fail to deliver. In Florence, a city surrounded by glacier-worn hills, olive vineyards and thick cypresses, we see Michelangelo's David in the Academia, the majestic cathedral, the city hall and the fresco-covered tombs of Michelangelo and Galileo. Via the forested ridges of the Chianti hills and the paving stones of Roman roads in Pienza, we head to Siena, known as 'the Queen of the Hill Towns', whose mediaeval buildings, cathedrals and monasteries will keep us busy for a couple of days. Walking the spectacular routes of the Cinque Terre proves an event never forgotten and we end our tour in Portofino, one of the country's most exclusive resort towns.
