Standing atop battlements in centuries-old castles of mediaeval fortified towns, enjoying sterling vistas of dramatic valleys and mountains and following historic routes once taken by Napoleon are but a few of the highlights as we make our way through regions world-famous for perfume and cuisine on the way to Avignon to see grand palaces, the 12th-century bridge, the university and other such monumental buildings.
In Nimes, we clamber over the massive stone blocks in one of the best-preserved amphitheatres of the Roman world and then it's on to Provence to get a look at the remarkable Pont-du-Gard, a 2,000-year-old aqueduct constructed entirely without mortar. From Aix-en-Provence to St Tropez, and from Cannes to Monaco, we travel far and wide in this remarkable destination and discover a fascinating mosaic of landscapes and cultures, before heading into Paris to see the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. Talk about ending on a high!
