Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Early departure from Coca, (Puerto Francisco de Orellana) at 7am. We will be traveling in the municipal transport boat which takes us to Nueva Rocafuerte. As we descend the Ņapo River (300 km), you will have the opportunity to see the beautiful scenery along the Ņapo with the Kichwa indigenous people that inhabit the area and their homes. You will also see the colonist settlers and oil exploitation that is beginning on the shores of the Ņapo River.
When we arrive to the border town of Nueva Rocafuerte, we will go to our hotel, have dinner and take a tour of this charming Ecuadorian town located across from Peru. During our tour you will always enjoy 3 meals daily and there will be plenty of water available. Don't forget your hat, sunglasses and sunscreen for the boat ride down the Napo River.
Day 2: We will have an early breakfast, a walk in Yasuni National Park, lunch in the forest and during the day we will keep a watchful eye out for the charming and mysterious Amazon River and Gray Dolphins and, a variety of birds, animals, medicinal plants. Your guide will inform you on the ecology of the area and answer any questions that you may have. We will have dinner and spend our second and last night in Nueva Rocafuerte.
Day 3: After breakfast, we begin our day paddling towards Peru while admiring the scenic beauty of the mouths of the Yasuni and Aguarico Rivers. After the Aguarico River, we will be entering the Peruvian border town of Pantajo where we will attend to immigration procedures and make a brief visit to the town. From now on, we will sleep in tents along the shores of the Ņapo River or possibly at times, in a resident's home.
Days 4-10: As we descend the Ņapo in Peru, we will have the opportunity to visit sites of interest and villages along the way. We will always be on the look out for any birds and animals that may come our way and of course, we will have time to sport fish. In the Ņapo and its tributaries, there are over 500 species of fish. Hopefully on occasion, we will be accompanies by dolphins during our descent.
You will see that we are off the beaten track on this adventure and you will live an unforgettable adventure traveling through the heart of Amazon. We will be cooking with camp fires and enjoying some unforgettable recipes. After our arrival at Mazan, Peru, we will make your connection for Iquitos and then leave you off to your own adventure. Our services end in Mazan and we hope you enjoy the rest of your trip through Peru.
Note: In most cases, one does not see where the Napo empties into the Amazon River. Travelers usually get out at Mazan, take overland transportation for about 1 kilometer and then a motorized boat 84 km to Iquitos. This can save a day or two of travel. Evening hikes and paddle rides looking for Cayman are optional during this tour.
