We'll chase the light up the Minnesota North Shore of Lake Superior, stopping at every photogenic waterfall north of Duluth until we hit the Canadian border (for the highest falls along the shore), and we'll still find time to explore the moods of the Great Lake. This is a three-day trip, in order to give us time to go all the way up the Shore for those great shots and learning experiences.
Photo skills. The beauty of water in motion - cascading down the falls or crashing on the shore - will provide us plentiful opportunities to develop compositional and emotional skills. Besides these large scale locations, we'll work on finding the beauty of the Wild in smaller-scale settings. With any luck at all, Fall colors will add to our ability to experiment and learn. This will be a collegial and low-pressure group setting, with plenty of personal attention to each participant.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: We'll set out on the morning of Friday, September 5 from the Twin Cities, deadhead it to Duluth, and start shooting as the falls emerge on the shore of Lake Superior. We'll hit several spots and end up at Grand Marais for the evening. The harbor there should provide us some memorable evening shots.
Day 2: Saturday morning we'll push all the way north to Grand Portage, shoot the High Falls, and start working our way south along the shore, stopping for scenic locations and teachable moments. We'll spend Saturday night in Two Harbors.
Day 3: Sunday morning we'll get sunrise shots on the shore of Lake Superior, and turn our way south, arriving back in the Twin Cities by 4:00 p.m. on the 7th.
