Do you dream of a vacation, being taken care of you from the arrival to the departure and your biggest worry is whether you have little bit of extra space for the dessert? Here the whole family is together with the horses and nature. At Iskar Ranch, there are many possibilities to explore the big area either on horsesback or horsecart. Experience the animal life at the closest touch or just relax on the dam’s coastline, while the kids amuse themselves in the calm water. Housing at Iskar Ranch is first class and the same is valid for the typical Bulgarian village cuisine. A stay at Iskar Ranch is a real family vacation even if some family members are not enthusiastic about horse-riding, but are more fond of a photo safari or simply prefer walking to riding.
Iskar Ranch, which lies 60 km south from Sofia, spreads over 4000 ha with big open meadows, fields, woods and lakes. It is situated by the shore of the biggest dam in Bulgaria - Iskar dam. The ranch itself is like a big playing ground for riders - no cars, nearly no asphalt, lots of natural paths and plenty of nice horses. Enjoy yourself with big nature experiences in a large, wild and nice riding world. Is just like riding your own horse.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1. After welcoming you at Sofia Airport you will be transferred to Iskar Ranch (60 km). This is the place where you will spend the biggest part of your stay.
Day 2-7. The first morning the riding guide will take you to the stables and together you will choose your horse for the week. Usually you ride back to lodge for lunch and after a rest you ride go out riding in the territory of the ranch. On a normal day you ride out 2-3 hours in the morning and 2-3 hours in the afternoon. The programe for staying in the Iskar Ranch includes many different opportunities for active recreation, which could be specified day-by-day upon the requirements of the tourists. These are: riding within the territory of the Iskar Ranch in coniferous and broad-leaved woods among numerous grazing flocks of Red deer, Falow-deer, Roe deer, Wild boar (really amazing experience!), angling both in Iskar dam or in the private lakes of the ranch (stocked with Wels, Pike-perch, Carp etc.), hunting (Iskar Ranch has also a game breeding station, famous for its game trophies!), boat excursions along the gulfs of Iskar dam, photo-hunting (the place is perfect for taking close pictures of Red and Falow-deer!), birdwatching in some of the neighbouring territories, walking tours in Rila Mountains (incl. climbing to Mount Musala - 2925 m a.s.l.) and many more… All these trips could be combined with picnics in the woods, campfires etc. Just tell the guide your wish and it will become a reality!
Other options are the visits to some places of interest in the shape of one-day trips. We recommend excursions to:
- Sofia (60 km): sightseeing, shopping, market, opera and theatre.
- Rila Monastery (130 km): the biggest and most popular Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria.
- Plovdiv (110 km): 2nd biggest city and cultural centre.
- Borovets (30 km): ski sport centre in the Rila Mountains with cable lift up to 2500 m - perfect starting point for climbing the highest peak on the Balkans - Mount Musala (2925 m).
Day 8. In the morning farewell breakfast and saying goodbye to the horses and the guides will put the end of this journey. Then you will be transferred to Sofia Airport for departure.
