Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Greeting at Cape Town airport by your tour guide. After checking in to the guest house and a city tour you have midday at your disposal. In the afternoon we take our first, flat hike around Lion’s Head with beautiful views over the city, Table Mountain and the Atlantic. (1,5 hours). Includes: (B).
Day 2: After breakfast a transfer takes you to the famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. We hike through the gardens directly to the shadowy Skeleton Gorge on the 1067 m high Table Mountain. Many protease can be found here. The hike along the edge of Table Mountain allows for the most beautiful views of the city. The descent is on the Atlantic side. (6-7 hours). Includes: (B).
Day 3: We drive to the Indian Ocean to the Boulders penguin colony. In the nearby Table Mountain National Park we begin our virtually flat hike along the breath-taking Atlantic Coast. With a bit of luck we will see not only whales and dolphins but also baboons, ostriches and blesbok. From the Cape of Good Hope we climb to Cape Point. (5 hours). On the return journey to Cape Town we pass along Chapman’s Peak drive, one of the most beautiful sections of the South African coast. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 4: Today we go to the West Coast National Park, which is well known for its gorgeous spring flowers from September till October. On the Strandveld hiking trail we get to know the unique flora. There are many tortoise and antelope species and the timid serval. We arrive at the pristine 16 Mile Beach (5 hours). A short transfer brings us to the guest house in Langebaan with views over the lagoon. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 5: In the vicinity we visit the fossilized footprints of dinosaurs. Passing the rooibos tea producing region of Clanwilliam we arrive in the heart of the Cedarberg. A hike takes us to the 24 m high Maltese Cross, a free-standing rock formation (3-4 hours). Afterwards, amidst the awe-inspiring sandstone formations we view the rock paintings of the indigenous people, the Khoisan. We spend two nights in comfortable chalets on the river. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6: On the ascent to the plateau today we can choose between an easier and a more adventurous route. Past fascinating sandstone formations the trail takes us to the Wolfberg Cracks and the Wolfberg Arch. The descent passes through one of the last cedar forests. (6-7 hours). Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 7: We drive to a vineyard in the Paarl wine lands via Ceres and the rugged Bainskloof Pass, where we sample the good Cape wine. We spend the next two nights in a comfortable guest house in Franschhoek. Includes: (B).
Day 8: Today our longest hike takes us on a horseshoe-shaped route from the Jonkershoek valley through stunning fynbos, protease and erica’s to the 1000 m high plateau of the Hottentot Holland Mountains with spectacular views right across to the Cape of Good Hope. (6-8 hours). Includes: (B), (L).
Day 9: After a visit to the Huguenot Monument we travel along the 600 m high Franschhoek Pass. A pretty hike with moderate elevation and fantastic views of the Cape Mountains takes us to the 1430 m high Perdekop (6 hours). After our return we drive through Robertson to the beautiful mountain town of Montagu. Our accommodation for the next two nights is in a stylish Victorian guest house. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 10: In the striking Kogmanskloof we hike through unique Cape vegetation to the narrow 1000 m high Bloupunt peak (6 hours). How about a relaxing bath in the Montagu hot springs? Includes: (B), (L).
Day 11: We drive through the rugged Tradouws Pass to the greener side of the Langeberg mountains. In today’s hiking district, the Grootvadersbosch Wilderness area, lies the largest forest in the Western Cape with beautiful indigenous Ironwood and Yellow wood trees (4 hours). We are accommodated in a stylish guest house in South Africa’s third oldest town, Swellendam. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 12: After visiting the interesting Drosty Museum we take the ferry at Malgas, the last "man-drawn" ferry in the country, across the Breede River to the De Hoop Nature Reserve. We take a hike along the inland lagoon with it’s more than 200 species of birds (3 hours). We spend the next two nights in the beautiful thatched cottages of a private lodge. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 13: In De Hoop live the mountain zebra, grey duiker, ibex, black-backed jackal and eland. We hike through the gorgeous dune vegetation and between July and November can observe southern right whales of up to 18m in length. (5 hours). Includes: (B), (L).
Day 14: We drive to the southern-most tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas, where we visit the historic lighthouse. We continue on to the coastal town of Hermanus.
