The peaks of Bhutan and Tibet can also be seen from along the ridge. After walking the entire length of the ridge we then descend to the valley. Here we spend two days walking through lush forests and beautiful villages back towards Darjeeling. On arrival to India you will be met at the airport. Depending on your personal itinerary you will be transferred to the domestic airport or hotel.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Delhi to Darjeeling (2134 m): 5 hrs

Take the two hour flight from Delhi to Bagdogra airport. We drive for about three hours, gaining height all the way and passing through many tea estates until we reach Darjeeling. Overnight hotel in Darjeeling.

Day 2: Rest Day in Darjeeling

Explore Darjeeling, an old hill station in a picturesque setting. Visit the market, Darjeeling Zoo and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. Enjoy a cup of tea one of India’s most famous tea producing towns. Overnight Hotel.

Day 3: Darjeeling to Manibhanjan (2150 m) to Jaubari (2750 m): 7 hrs

We leave Darjeeling early in the morning to drive for one hour to Manibhanjan. The trek starts from here and continues past several small settlements till Tonglu (3020 m), located in dense forest overlooking the entire Darjeeling hills. We stop to visit a Buddhist temple located at the start of the ridge. From Tonglu we continue along the rhododendron covered ridges to Jaubari, just inside the Nepal border, to gain our first uninterrupted views of the eastern Himalaya. Overnight home-stay in Jaubari.

Day 4: Jaubari to Kalpokhri (2950 m) to Sandakphu (3580 m): 6/7 hrs

From Jaubari we descend to Gairbas (2620 m) before a long, gradual ascent to the small lake and settlement at Kalpokhri. From here it is a 2 hours walk up to the ridge and the trekkers huts at Sandakphu.

Day 5: Sandakphu to Phalut (3600 m): 6/7 hrs

Rise early to catch the sunrise over the Himalaya. The view from Sandakphu is considered by many to be the best panorama of the Himalaya. Today’s walk is a long but easy stretch with gradual ascents and descents. A walk of four to five hours through rhododendrons and then for a couple of hours over treeless mountain slopes brings us to Phalut, the meeting place of three ridges coming from India, Nepal and Sikkim. It provides a spectacular view of Mt Everest and Khangchendzonga. Overnight home-stay.

Day 6: Phalut to Ramam (2560 m): 5/6 hrs

Rise early to catch the sunrise over the Himalaya. From Phalut the day starts with a steep descent through dense forest to reach the Ramam river. We cross the river by suspension bridge then climb through rhododendron, oak and pine forest to Ramam village (2560 m). We drop down off the ridge on this day. The terrain changes as we walk through deciduous forests and busy villages. Overnight home-stay.

Day 7: Ramam to Rimbik (2280 m): 5/6 hrs

It is an almost ten km level walk till Shirokhola. We cross the river by a suspension bridge and then climb for about half an hour. Another almost level walk of about three km leads to Rimbik. Overnight hotel at Rimbik.
