Tour Itinerary:
Day 1 : Huaraz - Canrey Chico - Tzcracancha
We’ll leave Huaraz in the south side and we will arrive to Canrey Chico, where we will meet our mountain staff, donkeys and llamas. Later we will arrive to our camp place Tzacracancha.
Day 2: Tzacracancha - Yanashallash pass - Shonkoruri
Today we have to pass the highest point in this route, so we have to leave early to get the pass on time. Our guide will recommend you to hold windy jackets, once we arrived to the Yanashallash pass 4700masl. Then we will start the zigzag path down to Shonkoruri for our camp.
Day 3: Shonkoruri - Chavin
We will start our trekking down hill passing by Andean straw and arrive to Chavin.
Day 4: Chavin - Pomachaca - Pincos - Tambillo
After visiting the ruins in the morning we will have lunch in the town of Chavin and we will continue driving along the Callejon de Conchucos Valley by next to mosna river. We will arrive to Pomachaca then hike for a few minutes to the camp site called Tambillo where we will prepare our camping.
Day 5: Tambillo - Lagunas Tinya - Quenhuajirca - San Cristóbal - Ayash
We wil start hiking up to the pass, but this time we will note climate changing due to altitude, different vegetations and landscapes. Along the way we will observe the beautiful lakes of Tinya and we will continue hiking by the great Inka Trail passing by several water streams. The village of Ayash with small ruins will prepare our camping next to the river.
Day 6: Ayash - Huamanin - Huincush Pass - Lliulla
We will continue hiking with destination to Huamani. When we reach the Hincush pass we will camp next to the small river, dinner in the highland style and overnight camping.
Day 7: Lliulla - Tambogrande - Jiraycancha - Taparaco
After the breakfast we will continue with our expeditions hiking down by the Lliulla valley and the Taparaco small river, appreciating the variety of the sheepherders lifestyles. Arrive to Jiraycancha and continue by the same valley we will arrive to Taparaco, where we can set our camps.
Day 8: Taparaco - Jellay Punku - Tullparumi - Pishcaraqui - Tararhua
After the breakfast in the camp we will start hiking till we'll arrive to Tullparumi and pass the place called Pishcaraqui, finally to our camping place of Tararhua.
Day 9: Trarhua - San Lorenzo de Isco - Estanque - Jerusalén - Huaricasha
After the breakfast in our camp site we will start hiking following the Taparaco River from here we will continue the Inka trail in the left side of the river arriving to Jerusalem and then to Huaricasha. Then in the afternoon our Andean cook will offer us a traditional and typical Indians dish, dinner and overnight camping.
Day 10: Huaricasha - Colpa - Quellecancha - Huanucopampa
We will continue our last day hiking, passing by several highland villages arriving to Colpa and cross the Vizcarra river. After the lunch in Hunucoviejo we will have free afternoon to rest and have washings dinner and overnight at the door of the Hunucoviejo complex.
Day 11: Hunucoviejo - La Union - Huallanca - Huaraz
After th breakfast in the morning we will get into the Hunucoviejo big complex and we will have guided tours for about 4 hours until lunch time, then after we will visit more of this archaeological complex we will have lunch in our camp site. From here we will drive to Huaraz.
Notes:
Things that you you need to bring:
- Backpack
- Sleeping bag
- Rain jacket or poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Huaraz for a small price)
- Strong, comfortable footwear
- One complete change of clothing (you can carry more if you afford to hire a personal porter, please see options below)
- Sweater or jacket
- Water bottle (boiled drinking water will be provided)
- Torch or flashlight and batteries
- Hat or cap for sun protection
- Sun block (sun protection cream)
- Insect repellent (absolutely important item for this hike is bug spray. Anything with a lot of Deet will do the job, anything less is simply not sufficient. Bug spray must be bought when you come to Huaraz, as it cannot be found in the neighboring towns)
- Toiletries, towel and toilet paper
- Small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits, energy bars etc,
- Camera, plenty of film and spare batteries
- Cash in soles
- Swimsuit (if you plan on visiting the hot springs at Hunacarhuaz after the trek)
- Optional: walking poles or stick rubber covers (can be hired from our office for a certain price for the 4 day trek)
- Copy of the passport
This could be optional:
- Personal horse with and extra cost
- Vegetarian meals. We can provide vegetarian meals or cater for special diets with no extra cost. Just let us know at time of reservation prior to trek departure
- Sleeping bag hire. If you haven't got a sleeping bag or you don't want the hassle of bringing one then we have sleeping bags in our office for rent
Reservation details:
All trek reservations must be made in advance (30 days in advance is recommended especially for April, May, June, July and August).
