From Santiago drive 37km to La Parva Ski resort (2,800m) and start hiking the ski slopes up to Laguna Franciscano lookout point (3,500m,2hrs). From here it is a 3hr hike to the summit of Cerro Pintor. Descend to La Parva in 3-4hrs. and drive down to Santiago. We take the Camino de Farellones, following the road to the La Parva Ski area continue uphill up to "Piuquenes" From there, climb Falsa Parva, and in doing so, reach the ridge of peaks that culminate in Leonera.
This part takes less than one hour, and goes via whichever routes zig-zag up Falsa Parva. Once you reach the summit of Falsa Parva, follow the trail of very gentle incline that leads in the direction of Cerro Plomo. From Falsa Parva (3740m), in less that 20 minutes one reaches and starts to go around Cerro La Parva (3970m), which is located to the right side of the trail. Later comes Cerro Pintor (4220m) and a few minutes later we will be summit in this great one day 4.220 mt high mountain! with a great vew of Cancha Carreras, Cerro Leonera and off course Cerro El Plomo!
* Group Size and Staff:
Every 4 pax - 1 guide.
Frequently we use the services of a local cook-guide that assists the mountain-guides while on the lower camps.
* Physical Demands:
Although none of the programmed ascents are technically difficult they demand great physical endurance and stamina, therefore, it is important to be in good shape to reach the summit. Oxygen deprivation or "puna" will affect everyone to some extent, however, we will gradually climb to higher altitudes.
* Included in Excursion Cost:
- All the ground transportation from the time we pick you up at Santiago
- Meals as mentioned in the itinerary (B=breakfast, L=lunch, D=dinner)
- One English speaking mountain leader-guide.
* What you need to bring:
The expedition demands technical gear such as: trekking boots; ski poles; personal clothing (feet, upper and lower body, hands, head, etc).
* Transport:
4x4 vehicles depending on the number of passengers.
* Changes on the itinerary:
Reasonable changes can be made in the itinerary because of the weather conditions or if judged to be in the best interest and well being of the participants.
* Climate:
Each expedition dossier contains fully detailed information in this matter however consider that over 6.000 m/ 19.500 ft the temperature drops to -30ºC and can reach +30ºC during the day.
