Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Pakse - Wat Phu - Si Pan Don
This tour departs from Pakse but if you require transport from the Thai / Laos border or Ubon we can arrange on request. Departing Pakse at 9:30 am we head South to the town of Ban Muang from here we cross over the Mekong by ferry to the town of Champasak and then head to Wat Phu.
This Natural Heritage Site was built in the 6th century by the Khmer's and was originally used to worship the Hindu god Shiva and other deity's before being converted into a Buddhist temple in later centuries. Wat Phu was considered the center of the Khmer kingdom until it was moved to Angkor Wat in the 12th century. Still an important monument today, it is visited by many people from around the world and every year hosts the three day Bun Wat Phu Champasak (Wat Phu Champasak Festival). For information on our Festival Tours click here. We have lunch at Wat Phu before heading to the largest of the 4000 islands Don Khong where you will spend the evening. Includes: (L, D).
Day 2: Don Khong - Don Khone
After breakfast we continue South you have two option. The first option involves a scenic boat trip down through the islands to finish up in Don Khone. The second option is a day of kayaking to Khone. We leave from Don Khong and get into kayaks to meander through Si Phan Don, the 4000 islands of the Mekong river, spending the night at the famous Sala Phae resort on Don Khone. Includes: (B, L).
Day 3: Limpi and Khon Pha Peng Waterfalls and onto Strung Treng
Waking up early we take and early morning visit to Limpi waterfall and the old railway bridge before heading back to the mainland at Nakasang where we will have a minibus waiting for you to continue to Khon Pha Peng the largest cascades in South East Asia. We have lunch at Khon Pha Peng before continuing to Veun Kham the Cambodian border and taking the boat to Strung Treng, we will spend the night in Strung Treng at the Sok Sambath Hotel. Includes: (B, L, D).
Days 4 - 5: Trekking in Ratanakiri Province and visit Ban Lung
Take a trip to the North Eastern province of Cambodia straddling the Vietnam border here you will see excellent forest wildlife and take a short trek stay overnight at the Yaklom Hill lodge. The following day take a trip to Boeng Yeak Lom Crater Lake great for swimming with its crystal clear waters with up to 5m visibility before continuing onto Kratie by boat, where you will spend the night. Includes: (2B, 2L, D).
Day 6: Kratie
Spend the day seeing the rare irrawaddy dolphins and relaxing in Kratie at the Santepheap hotel. Includes: (B, L).
Day 7:
After breakfast head to the capital of Cambodian Phnom Penh where you will be dropped at your preferred hotel.
* Optional: Two day tour to see the Killing Fields, Royal Palace, Tuol Sleng Museum, Olympic Stadium and the markets.
