Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Ubon Ratchathani Pakse (Laos) to Phoui
Pick up at Ubon airport at 7:40am if coming from Bangkok and transfer to the Laos border at Chong Mek. Or start the tour in Pakse. After border formalities have been completed, we head to the town of Phoui, briefly stopping at Tan Fan waterfall. Here we will spend the night in a village stay right by a fair trade coffee plantation. Spend the morning relaxing and after lunch see the coffee plantations and the whole processing of the coffee from the planting, to the roasting to cupping of the coffee. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 2: Bolaven Plateau
From the local village we have a half-day easy trek to the waterfalls around Phoui. After lunch we head to Tad Paxuam waterfall and the ethnic villages, before crossing the Mekong and heading to the town of Champasak where you will stay at the Anuoxa Guesthouse. Includes: (B, L).
Day 3: Wat Phu Champasak - Ban Kiat Ngong - Don Khong
Wat PhuMorning visit to Wat Phu, this Natural Heritage Site was built in the 6th century by the Khmers and was originally used to worship the Hindu god Shiva and other deitys before being converted into a Buddhist temple in later centuries. Wat Phu was considered the centre of the Khmer kingdom until it was moved to Angkor Wat in the 12th century. Still an important monument today, it is visited by many people from around the world and every year hosts the three day Bun Wat Phu Champasak (Wat Phu Champasak Festival). After lunch head towards Xe Pian NBCA at the village of Ban Kiat Ngong. You will take an elephant ride up the mountains visiting Phouasa Temple. Continue onto Don Khong where you will spend the night at the Sala Don Khong resort at the heart of the 4000 isMekong kayakinglands. Includes: (B, L).
Day 4: Don Khong - Don Det - Pakse
Departing Don Khong Island at 8:00am, we take our kayaks through the 4000 islands and stop at Don Det Ban Khone Island where we see the old railway bridge and have lunch. After lunch we put in after Limpi waterfall and kayak to see the rare Irrawaddy dolphins. Can you think of a better way of getting to see them without disturbing their habitat? Kayaking is the best way to get close to the dolphins. The best place to see them is on the other side of the Laos Border. Yes, we enter Cambodia and then come back to Laos so have your passports ready just in case. We take out at the Laos border with Cambodia and head back to Pakse, but not before stopping at Khon Pha Peng waterfall the largest cascades on the Mekong - the real power of nature. Stay at the Pakse Hotel. Includes: (B, L).
Day 5: Pakse - Thakhek
After breakfast, we drive north along Route 13 to Khammuane Province seeing the dramatic Karst Limestone formation and over to the Nam Teun bridge area. You may get a chance to take a short ride in B52 Bombs… Yes old bombs cut in half and made into boats. We stop at the edge of the NBCA at Teun Hin Boon Town where we spend the night. Day 6: Khammuane
A full day of trekking over the mountain range on parts of the Ho Chi Minh trail to the isolated villages on the far side. This moderate trek gives you a great insight into the habitat and ecosystems that exist in this pristine forest. We arrive at the local village late afternoon and enjoy a village stay with the head of the village. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 7: Khammuane Khong Lo Cave
Khong Lo CaveAfter breakfast we prepare to travel through Khong Lo Cave, a 7km cave and the longest in Laos PDR. We travel by longtail boats (by kayaks on request) using lamps for light. Once we arrive at the other side we transfer to the Nam Hinboun River where there is a several-hour boat ride that will take you through more landscape formations of the Champagne NBCA. This area is home to various wildlife monkeys, several large cats including Clouded Leopard, Civet Cat and Tiger. Local Fauna includes many different type of Ferns, rare Orchids, Cycads and a variety of Epiphytes. You can enjoy a swim in the river and then continue the relaxing ride until we arrive at excellent Sala Hinboun Lodge. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 8: Khammuane Hin Boun
After breakfast, we spend the day exploring the area. We trek up a small tributary of the Nam Hin Boon to the mouth of a limestone cave. Here we see many huge caves and explore one of them. We go 1km into the cave, wading through water once we get to the other side. We will have a barbecue lunch cooked by our guides before returning to the Sala Hin Boun. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 9: Khammuane - Vientiane
After breakfast, we head by river to Ban Hin Boun for the return journey to Thakhek. Once at Ban Hin Boun we stop for lunch before continuing to Thakhek, where you canBuddha Sculpture Park Vientiane relax and enjoy a nice hot shower at the Thakhek Travel Lodge. Includes: (B, L).
Day 10: Khammuane to Vientiane
Heading North again, we continue on route 13 bound for the capital. Along the way we stop at Phou Khao Khouay NBCA, where we have lunch and maybe a swim at Tad Leuk waterfalls. Continue to Vientiane and check into the Douang Deuan hotel. Includes: (B, L).
Day 11: Vientiane
Free day to explore the city by yourself. You can pick from many things to see and do: the morning market, Wat Sisaket, Tat Luang Stuppa and even the strange and wonderful Buddha Sculpture Park.
Day 12: Vientiane - Vang Vieng
Early morning drive to Vang Vieng where you will check into the Thavansouk bungalows overlooking the Nam Song River. Afternoon relaxing or try tubing or kayaking down the Nam Song River and look at the beautiful scenery of the limestone cliffs. Includes: (B, L).
Day 13: Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang
Take the mountain drive to Luang Prabang and check into the Villa Santi hotel where you can enjoy this marvellous hotel for three nights. The evening is free to roam this World Heritage French colonial town.
Day 14: Luang Prabang
Luang PrabangA morning tour of the city takes you to the old Royal Palace, Mount Phou Si, not to mention the enlightening temples that this town is so famous for. After lunch, travel out of town 35km to the Kuang Si Waterfalls, a spectacular 4-tiered waterfall set in stunning surroundings. You will have a chance to swim, climb the waterfall, and explore the nearby caves. Includes: (B, L).
Day 15: Luang Prabang
Free day to shop but we'll meet up for dinner overlooking the Mekong to say farewell. Includes: (D).
Day 16: Luang Prabang to Bangkok
Transfer to Luang Prabang international airport for your flight to Bangkok, and the end of the tour.
