We then visit Ban Sanghai, and learn about the traditional production of rice-wine and have a picnic lunch at a local riverside restaurant. Return to Luang Prabang, spend the afternoon relaxing at your hotel before having a well earned dinner at the night market.

Day 2: Kuang Si waterfalls

Departing from the hotel we visit the famous Kuang Si waterfalls, where you can swim or relax and take it easy by the waterfall. There are a few trekking paths to explore for the more adventurous and even a pool at the top of the waterfall where you can swing and jump into the cool deep water. We return to Luang Prabang late afternoon and in the evening you are left to yourself to relax and enjoy the tranquility of this colonial town.

Day 3: Vang Vieng Adventure

Departing in the morning we go by car to Vang Vieng about 300km south of Luang Prabang. The afternoon can be spent relaxing by the river or going for a gentle tube down the river, depending on water levels.

Days 4 - 5:

Vang Vieng is the adventure capital of Northern Laos. You have several options at this point of the tour. The first option is to take a two day rafting trip on the Nam Lik river which has some great grade 3 rapids, staying in an riverside bungalow and finishing in Vientiane. The second option allows you to go on two single day trips from a choice of rafting, kayaking, caving and trekking.

Day 6: Vientiane City Tour

The morning starts off with a delicious breakfast before we head off to see the sights of the city. Vientiane boasts the Pha That Luang Stuppa and the weird and wonderful Buddha Sculpture Park and we can even take a quick tour and a tasting at the Beer Lao factory. If you wish to stay in longer in Laos and explore the more quiet Southern Laos check out our 3 day and 6 day Southern Tours.

* Option 1: Kayaking and a boat trip with fishing on the Nam Ngum Lake two days

Day 1: You can start the trip at either Vang Vieng or Vientiane. From your departure point we travel to Hin Hoeup. Here we receive paddle instructions and head down the river admiring the cool gorge in either kayaks or rafts depending on your trip. We stop for lunch and a bit of cliff jumping.

After lunch we move through the calmer waters down to the Village of Ban Phat, where we enjoy Lao Hai (Rice wine), relax and change our clothes before moving on. Your luggage will stay on the truck while you kayak and will be waiting on arrival at Ban Phat. This night is spent in the rural ethnic village of Ban Phat relaxing, learning about the Lao culture and drinking more Lao Hai.

Day 2: Nam Ngum Lake. In the morning after a hearty breakfast we spend some time exploring the village of Ban Phat before heading to Nam Ngum lake. We spend the day touring villages in a motorboat and you can try your hand at some net fishing and maybe catch your lunch. After a Lao style lunch our truck will be waiting to take you to either Vientiane or Vang Vieng.

* Option 2: Two Separate days first day trekking in Vang Vieng

- Trekking Easy: Vang Vieng Cave Tour

This is a very easy trek which is mainly centered on visiting various caves in the region. We leave Vang Vieng at 9:00am and drive upstream to Tham Sang Village where we take a short walk and spend some time exploring the Elephant Cave. The next cave to visit is the Water Cave and here you can stop to swim and do some tubing within the cave. We then walk just over 40 minutes to Phao Tao where lunch will be prepared. After relaxing for a while we take a truck to the Organic Farm and start tubing (floating downstream on rubber tubes).

After tubing for 2 km we stop at Sleeping Cave, named because the people from Vang Vieng village used to sleep there during the Vietnam War when the U.S. military dropped tons of bombs on the area. You can explore this huge cave and climb through to the other side through a small opening in the side of the mountain, dependant on water levels. We then continue floating leisurely down the river back to Vang Vieng.

- Trekking Moderate: Phao Tao Trek, Vang Vieng

A pretty intense day trekking, we start by driving upstream and crossing over the Nam Song River to the Village of Phao Tao. From here we follow some beaten and some not so beaten tracks to Tham Hok cave and continue up to the top of one of the most scenic mountains in the areas. After arriving at the top we spend time admiring the view, relaxing and replenishing fluids before continuing a short distance to Tham Pa Sang where your guide will prepare lunch. During this time you can swim and take time to relax.

Kuang Si waterfall, Luang Prabang, LaosTham Pa Sang is a huge and largely unexplored cave with many stalactites and a stream flowing through it. After lunch we enter and explore Tham Pa Sang, going more than 100m inside. We then continue the trek following another basic trail back to the bottom of the mountain and continue towards the road, where a truck will be waiting to take us back to Vang Vieng or if you are on a two day trip we set up camp or go to the Patang resort.

- Second Day Kayaking on the Nam Lik River:

This river is used for fun kayaking most of the year and is suitaA fun day for allble for beginners. It is a relaxing day with the possibility of a swim in the rapids if you capsize. However on some days during the rainy season the river becomes a powerful grade 3 so we switch to rafting, although kayaking is still available for experienced paddlers. This is definitely the best alternative for travel between Vang Vieng and Vientiane.

You can start the trip at either Vang Vieng or Vientiane. From your departure point we travel to Hin Hoeup. Here you receive paddle instructions and head down the river admiring the cool gorge. We stop for lunch (fried rice, toasted baguette, barbeque vegetables and chicken) and while we prepare lunch you have the option of trying a 10m cliff jump into the cool calm waters below.

We continue after lunch in the calmer waters down to the village of Ban Phat, where we enjoy Lao Hai (Rice wine), relax and change our clothes before taking onward travel. Your luggage stays on the truck while you kayak and will be waiting on arrival at Ban Phat.

All these tours will end up at Vientiane at the end of Day 5
