Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at the airport of Pula, meeting with tour guide, departure towards romantic town Rovinj, strolling through historical heart of town, sightseeing church St. Eufemija, after that we will accommodate in our hotel and refresh before welcome party.
Day 2: Our walk through history will begin in prehistoric ancient time of Romans, and the best place for that is ancient city Pula. After we take a look on Nezakcij, city of old Histrian we will see Pula and roman monuments like Temple of August, Portarata, Forum and of course amphitheatre, famous Arena.
Day 3: Today we will pass through byzantine times by visiting Eufrazijana, a basilica known by great golden mosaics, and come to Middle Ages. That age we will find in romantic towns in middle Istra. Strolling over hills, researching murals in little churches hidden in forest, taste the vine in old cellar, trying decode glagoljica, unique Croatian script, search for remaining life in long time left cities.
Day 4: After breakfast we will leave Istra and go to Croatian Zagorje driving on old Napoleon road Lujzijana which got name by his second wife Marija Lujza from Parma. It is interesting that this road is in the Croatia from where was her great and forbidden love, croatian nobleman Josip Vrkljan. When we get there, we will accommodate in castle that was adapted to a hotel, the castle used to be home of great croatian nobleman writer Sandor Gjalski.
Day 5: We will continue our walk through renaissance and baroque castles that hide many stories and legends, just like one of desperate love between nobleman and village girl in Veliki Tabor. We will visit Trakoscan, one of the most beautiful castles in Croatia, after that castle Orsic where today we can find a Museum of the Peasant Revolt, the biggest rebellion of country folk against feudalist in this region that happened in 16. century. After that follows refreshment with homemade specialties and retourn in our castle.
Day 6: Today we will visit the first Croatian capital city Varazdin, beautiful pearl of baroque architecture. Walk through center full with palaces, nobleman houses from which even today hangs mark up tags from old guilds. Coffee is planed in renaissance fortress, real wasserburg place around which developed Varazdin as we know today. We will continue our trip to Osijek and Slavonija. We will accommodate in hotel built in secesian stile so we can continue our walk through history.
Day 7: Eastern part of Croatia which spreads by coast of Dunav has interesting and rich history. We will start from Vucedol, big prehistorich culture which is responsible for the first European calendar called Orion. We will continue toward Ilok, the city of vine, the city of fragrant traminac, that was brought here by count Odescalci. As counts Odeschalci came from far away and stayed here for good, so did many others like counts Eltz, or St.John Kapistran who fought against Turkish and whose body is buried in Ilok in beautifull church that carries his name . We will visit old wine cellars and taste that famous vine, and on return we will remember some recent Croatian history and see heroic city of Vukovar, light up the candles for victims and return to hotel.
Day 8: Today we will visit Osijek. Walk through its streets, looking beautiful secesian architecture, beautiful green parks, see Tvrda, the oldest part of town, and than relax on the banks of Drava river. In the afternoon is planed visit to Baranja and wineyards, and we will finish the day with tipical slavonian dinner with tamburitza players till late in the night.
Day 9: After breakfast we will leave Osijek and as cream on top visit Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia. Marija Juric Zagorka will lead us through old center of Zagreb. She was first Croatian female journalist and great writer, author of history novel Gricka vjestica. On Kamenita vrata we will light a candle, and the streets of Gornji grad will lead us to Square of St. Mark, and to the tower of Lotrscak from were we can, like on a palm of a haned see all Zagreb. Travel through tradition we will copmlete with unique taste of paprenjak (spiced biscuit) and coffee in one of upper town tavern. After that we will accommodate in our hotel on the top of Medvednica, favorite zagabrian outing spot, in beautiful nature just 15 minutes from center by car.
Day 10: On last day of our journey we will visit one of historical museums so we can repeat what we have experience and once again walk through town. After that we will go on goodby lunch and airport.
