Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive Beijing. You arrive at Beijing today. Your tour guide will meet you at Peking (Beijing) Capital International Airport and escort to your deluxe hotel located near historic sites in the city center.
Day 2: Beijing. An exciting day starts with a stroll along the ancient promenades of one of the world’s great wonders, the Great Wall. Built to protect China from invaders, this winding barrier of brick and stone could circle the world with a wall eight feet high. Later, visit the legendary Ming Tombs, resting place of 13 emperors. Later, you will visit the Summer Palace, a former summer resort for the royal family. This evening you are invited to a "Peking Duck" dinner.
Day 3: Beijing. Today you will ride on a trishaw through the back streets of old Beijing. Enjoy tea with a local family. After lunch, visit impressive Tienanmen Square, the largest public square in the world, and the Palace Museum, known as the Forbidden City. The complex of imperial palaces was home to the emperors for over 500 years in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Day 4: Beijing/Chengdu. After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Chengdu. Upon arrival, visit Wuhou Temple and Dufu Temple. Overnight at Sheraton Hotel.
Day 5: Chengdu. Today you will start your day at Panda Breeding Center, a huge, beautifully landscaped park, where you will see the lovely baby pandas playing. Next you will visit Dujiangyan irrigation system, the oldest and only surviving no-dam irrigation system in the world; and a wonder in the development of Chinese science.
Day 6: Chengdu/Lhasa. Take a morning flight to the Lhasa, the roof of the world. It is one of the world’s most exotic and enchanting cities. On arrival you will meet your local tour guide and transfer to the local best Lhasa Hotel. Enjoy the beautiful view on the way. Take a rest in the hotel to get acclimatized to the high altitude.
Day 7: Lhasa. In the morning visit Potala Palace, globally viewed as the symbol of Tibet’s past, present and future. In the afternoon, visit Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lamas. This evening enjoy Tibetan folk singing and dancing while dining on local cuisine.
Day 8: Lhasa. This morning’s sightseeing includes a visit to Drepung Monastery, one of Tibet’s largest. Visit Jorkhang Temple and Barkhor Square in the afternoon. Tibet’s most sacred shrine, Jorkhang Temple is the heart of Lhasa, while the Barkhor Square area is its gathering and commercial center. There you can get a feel for local life, bargain for handicrafts and see living history. Have a sip of Tibetan tea with a local family.
Day 9: Lhasa/Chengdu/Chongqing. Fly out of Lhasa to Chengdu, and then transfer to Chongqing. Board your cruise ship for your unforgettable journey on the fabled Yangtze River.
Day 10: Fengdu. On board activities include a lecture on the art of calligraphy and a massage demonstration and daily Tai Chi lesson in the morning. Today’s excursion site is Fengdu. Known as the "Adobe of Devil", Fengdu and nearby Pingdu Mountain attract tourists with their temples and shrines dedicated to the gods of the underworld.
Day 11: Shennong Stream. Sail through the spectacular Qutang Gorge, the smallest of the three Yangtze gorges. After passing through the Qutang Gorges, you will arrive at Badong in the morning. From Badong take a shore excursion to Shennong Stream. During this breathtaking journey, you may see the ancient roads, precipice coffins, and golden-haired monkeys. Return to the Yangtze and pass through Wu Gorge, famous for its lofty Twelve Peaks and then on to the fabled Xiling Gorge. Finally you will sail through the dramatic Three Gorges Ship Lock.
Day 12: Three Gorges Dam, Yichange/Shanghai. Today you will take an excursion to the widely talked about Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest hydroelectric project. Disembark at Yichang. Your local tour guide will meet you at the pier and assist you for your flight to Shanghai, the most cosmopolitan city in China. You tour guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to Suzhou. Check into the five-star Sheraton Hotel.
Day 13: Suzhou/Wuxi. Today you will visit Tiger Hill and the Master’s Nets Garden. Then visit a silk weaving factory to see silk fibers being separated from cocoons and wound onto spools, and admire fine-intricate designs at Silk Embroidery Research. Drive to Wuxi and check into the five-star Sheraton Hotel.
Day 14: Wuxi/Shanghai. This morning, you will take in the beautiful view of Tai Hu Lake from Turtle Head Islet, so named for its shape. Take a cruise on the Tai Hu Lake. Later you will visit a clay-figure studio operating for over 400 years. In the afternoon you are free to sample the local cuisine and walk along the Grand Canal or the cobblestone streets on your own. Then drive to Shanghai and check into the five-star Hua Ting Hotel and Towers.
Day 15: Shanghai. Sightseeing in Shanghai includes the Yuyuan Garden, the "Bund", Children’s Palace, and the new Shanghai Museum. Enjoy a thrilling acrobatic show after the farewell dinner.
Day 16: Shanghai. You have whole day free to explore Shanghai on your own.
Day 17: Depart Shanghai. Say "zai jian" (goodbye) to China and be assisted to the airport for your flight home.
