Travel by foot, bike, kayak, boat, train, ferry and bush plane, deep into a rugged frontier where land vehicles simply won't cut it. Begin in Juneau, the state capital, rich in fishing, mining and Russian fur trading history. Kayak the Icy Strait in search of whales, dolphins and sea lions and cruise through Glacier Bay National Park in the company of park rangers eager to point out the Bay's thriving flora and fauna.
Helicopter to Mendenhall Glacier, strap on your crampons, and spend a day exploring the most pristine and remote areas of the glacier. Traverse the famous White Pass and Yukon Route by train and savor the freshest salmon you've ever tasted at an authentic Alaskan salmon bake before calling it a night in the comfort of your charming bed and breakfast or lodge.
Accommodations:
Night 1: Glacier Bay Lodge.
Glacier Bay Lodge, nestled between the spruce trees of Bartlett Cove, offers the only accommodations within the Park. The Lodge features unsurpassed views of the Fairweather Mountain range and is the starting point for the Glacier Bay Tour.
Nights 2 - 3: Mile Zero Bed and Breakfast.
Mile Zero was planned, designed and built as a B&B in 1995. It incorporates all the most desirable features of both a motel and a B&B. It offers spacious rooms, private baths, double insulated soundproof walls and handicap access. While centrally located and an easy walk to town, it's situated in a quiet residential district.
Nights 4 - 5: Best Western Grandma's Feather Bed.
Best Western Grandma's Feather Bed, the smallest hotel in the world's largest hotel chain, is a Victorian farmhouse located approximately one mile from Juneau International Airport and four miles from Mendenhall Glacier. All 14 guest rooms are designed for ultimate comfort, and include feather beds and in-room Jacuzzis. Amenities include a therapy pool, Grandma's Restaurant, room service, dry cleaning, laundry facilities and 24-hour front desk service.
