Hacienda La Alegria is a specialist provider of quality riding holidays. From our base at our beautiful old hacienda we set out with small groups of riders across the paramo (high grassland), mountains and cloud forest of the high equatorial Andes, staying at haciendas and "tambos" (traditional Andean inns). We offer rides with fixed itineraries (see left) which allows you to meet other like-minded travellers and enjoy the experience of a lifetime in great company.
For groups of two or more we would be happy to arrange a ride customised to your requirements, taking in spectacular craters, highland lakes, high pass crossings and local some colour such as rodeos and round-ups where "Chagras" (Andean cowboys) dressed in traditional llama-hide chaps muster the cattle from the surrounding paramo.
We have horses suitable for both first-time and experienced riders. We are careful to match all riders with a horse suitable for their level of riding ability and experience. Before setting off you will be given time to get used to your horse and tack in the safety of our paddock and "round".
Hacienda La Alegria offers a quality riding experience. Many riding outfits in Ecuador do not do our fine equestrian tradition justice. At La Alegria you will ride well-behaved, willing and fit horses and will be fed and accommodated in style. Rider satisfaction is very important to us.
