While most visitors spend a day hiking the Inca Trail to reach Machu Picchu, this Peru adventure includes an exclusive 6-day lodge-to-lodge trek along the magnificent Salkantay Valley – a path much less traveled, but by many accounts more scenic and exclusive than the Inca Trail itself.
Your journey spans 11 days and begins and ends in Lima, with time to explore the Pisaq market in Urubamba, Cusco's ancient archaeological sites and the historic salt mines in Maras. Begin your lodge-to-lodge hiking expedition in Soraypampa, following the ancient Salkantay Route along the Cordillera Vilcabamba to Machu Picchu. Challenge yourself as you trek through nine different biozones, changing altitudes and varied terrain. Traverse lush bamboo forests, avocado orchards and coffee plantations, soak up the exquisite beauty of Salkantay Peak, Salkantay Glacier and Humantay Glacier Lake and learn the culture and age-old traditions of local Andean families.
