The coastal dune forests, beautiful beaches, and warm seas of St Lucia are followed by the beautiful hills and valleys of Hluhluwe/Umfolozi.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Leave Durban to travel north into Zululand. After a 2.5-hour drive we check in to your accommodation, a 4-star B and B centrally situated in St Lucia village making it easy to wander around and explore all the sights and sounds. In the afternoon we take a boat cruise on the lake where we will introduce you to some of the 2000 crocodiles and 800 hippos that live in this amazing World Heritage site. Dinner is for your own account at one of the local restaurants.

Day 2: After breakfast head into the Wetland Park for a full day tour of the area with a fully qualified and experienced nature guide. Enjoy unusual scenery and a host of wildlife and bird species. Visitors will be taken to various viewpoints to see the lake system, as well as enjoy a spot of bird viewing and hippo or crocodile sightings. Cape Vidal and Mission Rocks will also be visited during the tour. At low tide these stunning parts of the coastline, with rock pools full of sea-life, are great for exploring and snorkeling (sea-conditions permitting) as well as some beach or relaxation time.

Day 3: Today is your optional day. Your guide can take you on a guided walk / cycle tour to explore the area. Or you could spend the day relaxing, shopping, or on one of the many optional activities available, not included in the package price (see below for some ideas). In the evening there is included a night drive safari in the wetland park. This 3-hour trip gives you the opportunity to see the more nocturnal animals under the stars.

Day 4: After breakfast we travel the short distance to Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park. Game drive through the park to your accommodation at Mpila camp: en-suite safari tents (pending availability).

Day 5: The following day will start with the sunrise as guests can take either a game drive or guided walk. If they choose to take the opportunity to walk in the field a qualified and highly experienced armed ranger will accompany them. This activity aims to give each guest an opportunity to experience the excitement of the African bush. One may even be lucky enough to share a close encounter with the larger game species such as Elephants, Lions or even Leopard. After the early walk or drive it’s time for a well earned brunch. The rest of the day will be spent on a game drive during which the guide will interpret life in the African bush. This experience will not only introduce the guest to a multitude of fauna and flora species but will also provide insight into the management and conservation of this; Africa’s oldest conserved game area.

Day 6: Departing Umfolozi on the last morning we take a game drive through the Hluhluwe side of the Park. Exiting at the northern gate, we stop at a craft shop for gifts and souvenirs and lunch before driving back to Durban.
