The "Sherif Halil Pasha" Mosque or so-called Tombul Mosque is located in the city of Shumen. Was built between 1740 and 1744 and is the largest mosque in Bulgaria and the second largest on the Balkans. It was called The Tombul Mosque because of the form of its dome. The prayer-hall of the temple is not big, but its form is quite interesting. Its base is a square, its middle part is an octagon and its top is a circle. The interior has mural paintings of vegetable life and geometric figures and features a lot of inscriptions in Arabic, phrases from the Koran. The yard is known for the arches in front of the twelve rooms that surround it and the minaret is 40 m high.
