Piedmont is a touristic virgin land. Only the 2006 Olympic games have made it a better known destination. Our tour takes you to the south eastern part of the region, which has a strategic location, within slightly over one hour reach of the highest mountains of Europe, of lake Maggiore and of sea resorts such as Portofino or Cinqueterre. The tour starts in the lovely city of Aqui Terme, a thermal town where steaming hot water pours from the fountain on the main square. It has cobbled streets and plenty of interesting boutiques.
You will see a sea of vineyards. The roads winds and meander through a landscape of soft hills completely covered by luscious vineyards and often crowned by imposing castles. Piedmont is also, a land that is famous for its outstanding cuisine, a mix of the best of French and Italian cooking. Mellow cheeses directly from the producers and delicate truffles add a special flavor. Piedmont has the best Italian wines; long before Brunello and Chianti became fashionable wines, Barolo had the quality of the best French wines. Now, besides Barolo the choice is endless: Barbaresco, Dolcetto, Barbera, Moscato or Nebbiolo. Notes:
