Tour Itinerary:
Day 1, December 26, 2008: Depart from US airport of your choice for your wonderful romantic adventure in Vienna.
Day 2, December 27, 2008: Arrival at Vienna Airport, Schwechat and transfer with private car to 4 star Hotel Johann Strauss. The hotel is located in walking distance from the Inner City and close to public transportation. At 3:30 pm your private guide will pick you up at the hotel for your first experience in Vienna - a walking tour through the Inner City, passing Vienna's landmark, St. Stephen's Cathedral, (guide will point out locations for the program of the next days), ending up at your dinner.
At 6:00 pm welcome dinner at the renown Restaurant "Griechenbeisl", Vienna's oldest restaurant, located in the untouched medieval quarters of Vienna. After dinner you will venture back to the hotel using your newly acquired city knowledge and the "U-Bahn", Vienna's modern.
Day 3, December 28, 2008: At 9:15 am attend the Mass sung by the Vienna Boys Choir at Imperial Chapel - a very spiritual experience. At 2:00 pm pickup at hotel for a Vienna City sightseeing tour including the famous Ringstrasse and its elaborate buildings and a visit of Schonbrunn Palace, the Habsburg summer residence.
At 7:00 pm dinner with music, fitting this elegant journey, at haute-cuisine Restaurant "Zu den Drei Husaren". Some restaurants become legends in their own lifetimes. "Zu den drei Husaren" is Vienna's answer to Tour d'Argent in Paris or Operakällaren in Stockholm. Being an institution has its hazards, of course; but proprietors Kohl and Plachutta have stoutly resisted the twin temptations of elitism and tourism.
Day 4, December 29, 2008: 9.00 am meet your guide for a walking tour including the newly reappointed Mozart House and the "House of Music", where you can visit the collection of classic Viennese composers and conduct if you wish Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. At
7:00 pm dinner at the Sky Restaurant , which has a wonderful cuisine and true to its name a spectacular view of the Inner city overlooking St. Stephen’s cathedral.
Day 5, December 30, 2008: At 12:00 noon after a leisurely breakfast at the hotel stroll into the Inner City. Prior to your dance lessons you will visit the famous "Konditorei Demel" for a snack and a glass of the bubbly. At 1:30 pm you walk a few steps from there to the waltz lesson at Dance School Elmayer, Vienna's foremost dance school, where you will be taught how to dance the Viennese waltz (Did you know that the Viennese waltz can be danced into two directions: to the right and to the left!). At 7:00 pm attend a performance of the famous Lipizzan horses at the Spanish Riding School (Imperial Stallburg - public transportation or a leisurely stroll from the hotel).
Day 6, December 31, 2008: This day is free at leisure and relaxing before the big event - or to visit one of Vienna's many marvelous museums or go shopping on elegant "Kärntner Strasse". Buy yourself something wonderful like a piece of Augarten porcelain or a Dirndl dress at Lanz. At 7:00 pm transfer with private car from the hotel to the Imperial Hofburg Palace, the former winter residence of the Austrian Emperors.
At 7:30 pm Imperial Ball: as you enter you start feeling like a different person - the elegance of the palace; the Imperial Guards greeting the guests; women in long dresses and men in tuxedos or tails, swaying to the music of a Strauss waltz - in the same place where royalty used to dance. Your reserved seats are at a table in one of the spectacular halls, dinner including beverages will be served to you there in Imperial style. Return to the hotel by cab or in your magic pumpkin.
Day 7, January 1, 2009: From 12:00 noon to 03.00 pm you may want to stroll through the Inner city to your brunch or take a Viennese tram (street car) along the Ring. The Brunch at Hotel Intercontinental - an elaborate buffet prepared by Chef Hierzer including an special aperitif and the possibility to watch and hear a transmission of the New Year's concert on big screen television. At 7:00 pm to end this wonderful first day of 2009 you will attend an age-old Viennese tradition - a performance of Johann Strauss1 "Fledermaus" - (flitter mouse) at Vienna's Volksoper.
Day 8, January 2, 2009: Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Transfer with private car from Hotel to Vienna Airport.
