Instead of returning from the peak of Yushan on the original route, we descend into the valley to the NW, source of the Laonung stream, wild-camp near Batungguan alpine meadow (or stay in the slightly more distant Guangao shelter), and on the last day follow part of the, beautifully cut into steep mountain-sides, Batungguan trail to the Dongpu hot-spring resort. The latter part is the northern-most section of the "Southern Second Section Traverse". This option is more demanding than the regular Yushan ascent/descent but is very much worth the effort!
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Tatajia (Tataka) trail-head - Paiyun Lodge.
Day 2: Paiyun - Yushan Main Peak - Laonung source - Batongguan meadow - Guangao shelter.
Day 3: Guangao - Dungpu Hot-spring resort.
