Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Trabzon

Meet with our team at the airport and transfer to Sumela Monastery which was built in the 4th century by Athenian Monks Barnabas and Sophronius on the Karadaglar following the tradition of monasteries located outside the cities in forests near caves and sources of water. The monastery is 50 km away from the city center and at 1200 m elevation and overlooking a very beautiful alpine scenery. At the moment the site is under restoration by Turkish Government and getting better each year. Frescoes of the monastery are outstanding, giving examples from Old and New Testament. After visit we turn back to city and overnight at a 3 star hotel. Includes: (D).

Day 2: Barhal Village

We start driving in the morning and following the fast running rivers and beautiful green valleys we reach to Ovit Dagi pass once crossed from south to north by ten thousand Greek mercenaries commanded by Xenophon who has written them in his book of Anabasis. After we descend down to town of Ispir which is on the side of Coruh River, famous for rafting in Turkey, and in the afternoon following the narrow roads and Coruh River via Yusufeli town we ascend to Barhal village to spend the night. Overnight at Marsis Pension. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 3: Barhal. In the morning we drive up to Cicek Valley and with wonderful view of the Altiparmak Mountains ridge we trek following the paths still used by villagers to from one village to the other. Villagers move up these villages in summer following the traditions in order to graze their animals on green pastures of the mountain. Here we trek up to Karagol lake at and have picnic here and descend down to Barhal village. Overnight at Marsis Pension. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 4: Yusufeli - Hopa. In the morning we will visit the Barhal Church dating back to 10th Century. After, start driving to Yusufeli following the Altiparmak which is one of the best rivers in Turkey for white water rafting and via Artvin drive to Hopa and overnight at Terzioglu Hotel. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 5: Camlihemsin - Ayder

We carry on driving along the Black sea coast and ear Of town we start driving up towards the mountains and in Camlihemsin town we stop for a while for shopping and to observe the traditional dresses of the town. Later we drive up to Zilkale fortress which was built first by Commenos Family and later used by other nations captured the area. Castle is situated 100 meters higher than the bottom of Firtina Valley, which was chosen as pilot region to a project to protect Eastern Black Sea Basin, which is one of the 26 water basins of Turkey.

The project aims to protect water resources, soil and forest in Eastern Black Sea region, and to establish required infrastructure for sustainable management of these natural resources. Situated on the northern skirts of the Kackar mountain range, the Firtina Valley bears riverside forest, temperate rain forest, sub alpine scrub communities, alpine grasslands, cliff habitats and many endemic species. The ecosystem is under threat by planned construction of hydro power plants. Although the plan is currently stopped by a court order, additional protective measures should be implemented in order to protect the globally important forest ecosystem. After, we drive to Ayder town and overnight at Ayder Yesil Vadi Otel. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 6: Yukari-Kavron. Today we explore the Ayder area. We take a dolmush up to Yukari Kavron high pasture and Yayla used by locals in summer, close to high peaks of Kackar range. Here we start trekking uphill via lakes we reach Okuzcayiri than we descend down back to Kavron. And drive back to hotel. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 7: Aygir and Balik Lakes. In the morning drive to Uzungol town and after shopping for the picnic we drive towards the Soganli Mountains visiting Demirkapi Village, Aygir and Balik Lakes just 200 meters below the Haldizen ridge (300 meters). Than we drive down to Uzungol and overnight at Inan Kardesler Hotel. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 8: Trabzon - Home. Transfer to Trabzon airport and back to home. Includes: (B).
