This dive expedition takes us through southern and central African Bush and Beach destinations. A PADI advanced qualification or equivalent is needed to take part on this tour or can be attained on route. A flexible attitude and an open mind can only contribute to the experience of a life time never to be repeated.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Johannesburg. After arriving at the Airport we go to our lodge and spend the night here. Time permitting an optional Soweto tour can be done. D
Days 2-3: Kruger National Park. Today we head strait to the Kruger National Park and stay in 2 of Kruger’s camps in our 2 days here. In our time in Kruger National Park we hope to see Zebra, Wildebeest, Giraffes, Buffalo and with any luck Lion and Leopard on an included night drive. Includes: Half Board.
Day 4: Bilene. We leave the Park through the Greater Limpopo National Park into Mozambique. We head through authentic local villages and over the Massingir dam wall before heading towards the Indian Ocean. Upon arrival in Bilene we may still spend the late afternoon swimming in the Bilene Lagoon. Includes: Half Board.
Days 5-7: Inhambane. In the afternoon we arrive in Inhambane and after a short walk around this fascinating town exploring the church and market we head to Tofo beach. After getting acquainted with our dive center we check into our accommodation on the beach and go out to dinner in one of the many wonderful restaurant in town. For the next 2 days we will spend our mornings getting in 2 dives in a day and spending the afternoons at leisure. The reefs promise a multitude of tropical marine life including scorpion fish, crocodile fish, groupers and with any luck Manta Rays and Manta Shrimp. Includes: Half Board.
Days 8-9: Vilankulo. In the afternoon we arrive in the town of Vilankulo. The following day is spend doing a Tour out by Boat to the Benguerra Archipelago and see the Ancient Arab Type Dhows sail through the channels. We dive 2 of the many reefs lying between Bazaruto and Benguerra Islands. This is a world heritage site and famous for its discovery of Dungeons quite recently. With much luck we might see these endangered creatures on one of our dives, as well as Box Fish, Giant Brindle Bass, Turtles, Leaf Fish and much more. Includes: Half Board.
Day 10: Gorongosa National Park. After a long drive we arrive in this once very turbulent place—a Renamo stronghold. It is a scenically fantastic park is returning to its former glory as one of the greatest National Parks in Africa. With some luck we can view some unique animals like Suni Antelope, Oribi, Sable, Bsuhpig, Samango Monkeys. A growing population of Lions and Elephants also roam the park making the repopulation program a huge success. Includes: Half Board.
Day 11: Lengwe National Park (Malawi). We head out of the park and north past Mount Gorongosa along the southern most part of the Great rift Valley. After crossing the Zambezi River (Africa’s 3 longest) on the longest railway bridge in the world. After a border crossing we head through the sugar cane fields of Southern Malawi. We enter Lengwe National Park and head to our open Camp—Nyala Lodge in the Shire River Valley. Includes: Half Board.
Day 12: Cape Maclear (Lake Malawi). It takes us north up the Rift Valley Wall into Blantyre. The road takes us past the Zomba Mountains. Some of Malawi’s highest mountains on which they grow all kinds of strawberries and passion Fruit. We arrive late afternoon and have a chance to visit a local school and the orphanage of Chembe Village. Includes: Half Board.
Days 13-15. Mumbo Island. Today we Kayak across the Southern Part of Lake Malawi National Park (a world heritage site), which lies in the Great Rift Valley, to Mumbo Island. We spend 3 night here. We will also take part in 4 fresh water altitude dives. In this scenic underwater environment we get the opportunity to see a variety of cichlids and are collected here to be exported all over the world for fresh water aquariums. Includes: Half Board.
Days 16-19. South Luangwa. Today we head into Zambia and after a stop in Lilongwe to stock up for our time in South Luangwa National Park. We spend the first night in Chipata before heading to the Luangwa river. This Park is one of the Game Richest Parks in Africa and boasts a healthy Lion and Leopard population. We spend the next 2 days doing Game Drives and a Night Drive having a chance to see some rare Giraffe, Antelope and Zebra species. The afternoons are spend at leisure enjoying the siesta on the edge of the Luangwa River. Includes: Half Board.
Day 20: Lilongwe. Today we drive to the capital of Malawi where we catch our flight out of Africa back home.
