Snow covered mountain peaks and crisp, clean, clear air that only the winter can bring. Visiting two high country stations including Molesworth Station and an historical homestead. Imagine staying overnight with the cosy ambiance of a high country homestead, sitting down to a traditional New Zealand roast meal including lamb and all of the trimmings with a hot chocolate fudge dessert to finish.
Enjoy a local red wine and the open fire glittering in the warm candle-lit dining room. Relax in comfortable lounge chairs by the glowing open fire with a fine port and enjoy chatting with your hosts. In the morning open your curtains to the vista of snowy topped mountains and bush clad hillsides cascading down to the river below.
Learn all about the history and old stories of this fascinating area, as well as sampling the wine and meeting the locals of the stunningly beautiful Awatere Valley. Tour starts and finishes in Blenheim with pick up from your accommodation, airport or Picton Inter Islander terminal. If required we can organize your Blenheim accommodation. Price is all inclusive of meals and accommodation.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: 9.00 am pick-up. Drive to the Awatere Valley via the original old coach road right to the Pacific Coast.Enjoy uninterrupted views right to the mountains, with expansive views of the many vineyards set amongst the distinctive river terraces. 10.30 am. Morning tea at a country garden and homestead in the lower Awatere Valley.
1.30 pm. Arrive at the gates of Molesworth Station for a winter picnic style lunch, enjoy home-made soup, hot chocolate or plunger coffee and other goodies all supplied from our 4WD mini coach. 4.30 pm. Arrive at Duntroon High Country Station to enjoy great country hospitality for your the time of your stay. Enjoy being spoiled with fine dining and local Awatere wines and a great farm style breakfast.
Day 2: 10.30 am pick-up. A later start allows time for recharging the batteries or perhaps a walk on the farm, then it's time to visit a high country station in the beautiful Medway Valley. Here there will be time to meet the family perhaps take in some farm activity and enjoy a beautiful lunch matched with local Awatere wine. 3.00 pm. Time available for some olive oil tasting or possibly more wine tasting. 5.00 pm. Return to your accommodation in Blenheim, or to the airport or Inter Islander in Picton.
