Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Durban – Karkloof Nature Reserve.
You pick up the rental car at Durban Airport and drive in the direction of Pietermaritzburg. You will pass through the Valley of a 1000 Hills. Howick is a lovely village to stop for coffee our lunch. And you also have to do some grocery shopping here because tonight, you’ll cook yourself. You will stay in a beautiful forest setting in a wonderful wooden house. Enjoy the terrace and see little monkeys in the trees. Inclusive of accommodation.
Day 2: Karkloof Nature Reserve – Rosetta.
Visit the ‘arts and crafts’ of the Midlands Meander. Buy some leather shoes, handmade by Zulu women, or lovely sheepskin slippers for winter. Taste cheese and don’t forget the homemade lavender skin products. You can find all this while wandering the ‘Midlands Meander’. Inclusive of accommodation dinner and breakfast.
Day 3: Rosetta – Nottingham Road.
Today you’ll spoil yourself with some serious pampering. You stay in a 5star spa close to Nottingham Road. This very special place offers beautiful suites with all different themes. They all tell you a little part of the history of the old farm house. A traditional African healer (a sangoma) is present to assist you with all you beauty treatments. Very, very special place, one of a kind! Inclusive of accommodation, dinner and breakfast. Optional: spa and beauty treatments.
Days 4 - 5: Nottingham Road - Drakensbergen.
Time now for some hiking and spending time in nature. You will stay 2 nights in the middle of the Drakensberg in beautiful cottages. You can hike up to San rock paintings and enjoy these beautiful and stunning surroundings. Inclusive of accommodation, dinner and breakfast. Optional: excursion to San Rock paintings.
Day 6: Drakensbergen – Clarens.
Today you will be driving through the Golden Gate National Park, a stunning park famous for it’s sandstone rocks. Make sure to get out of your car and take some beautiful pictures. In the afternoon you arrive in de picturesque little village of Clarens. Inclusive of accommodation and breakfast.
Days 7 - 8: Clarens – Lesotho, Malealea.
Now it’s time to enjoy some Real Africa although the mountain kingdom of Lesotho is also called ‘the Nepal of Africa’ because the entire country is situated 1000 m above sea level. During winter (July – August) it can snow so be prepared! Malealea Lodge is located really in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is loved by many, many tourists because of the relaxed atmosphere and stunning surroundings. The local Basotho people are lovely and helpful. You can visit Malealea village, hike with a local guide and ride the strong Basotho ponies. Inclusive of accommodation, dinner and breakfast.
Day 9: Malealea - Bloemfontein.
So sorry but you have to leave this beautiful place and drive to Bloemfontein where you will catch a domestic flight to your next destination. This trip can easily be combined with a visit to the East and / or West Cape.
