Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: In the morning you will be picked up at your motel in Christchurch. From there we drive to Kaikoura to do some whale watching before we check into our motel.
Day 2: From Kaikoura the Budget Tour’s next stop is Hanmer Springs, a center of activities. You are free to spend your time as you like, for example by trying the hot pools, do some rafting, bungy jumping or clay bird shooting before checking into your motel. The Deluxe Tour stops at Hanmer Springs before moving on to Maruia Springs Thermal Resort, where you will enjoy a hot spa pool, a massage and an Asian or European dinner before a lovely night’s sleep in this mountain resort.
Day 3: After breakfast a scenic drive via the Buller Gorge to Westport, and down the coast, visiting the Pancake Rocks, via Greymouth to Shantytown (where you may find gold), and to Moana on the shores of Lake Brunner.
Day 4: The drivers’ day-off. You will spend the day (DeLuxe) or a half day (Budget) on a Trout fishing safari, accompanied by an experienced guide.
Day 5: After breakfast we will drive to Whataroa and embark on the White Herons safari, to watch New Zealand’s only White Heron nesting colony and many other birds and native flora.
Day 6: A Scenic Flight will take us over the Franz Joseph Glacier for spectacular views of the Southern Alps and Mount Cook. Later in the day we will drive on to either Arrowtown or Cromwell.
Day 7: Today you have the opportunity to visit Queenstown, with its wide range of activities. We’ll return to the same motel in Arrowton or Cromwell.
Day 8: Scenic drive to Dunedin, New Zealand’s oldest university town, where you will have the afternoon and evening off to spend at will, before we check into our motel.
Day 9: Drivers day off. Today you will visit the Otago Peninsula and embark on the Monarch Wildlife Cruise (Budget: half day; Deluxe: full day), spotting seals, yellow-eyed penguins and the Royal Albatross. Return to the same motel.
Day 10: After a morning town walk, we will transfer to Oamaru, the Whitestone city, and find a motel. In the evening we will visit the unique Blue Penguin Colony.
Day 11: Up early and away we go, up to the Banks Peninsula to cruise on Akaroa Harbour and either watch (budget) or swim with (deluxe) Dolphins, before we check into our last motel in Christchurch.
