Tour Itinerary:
Days 1 - 2: On arrival at Durban Airport you'll be met and transferred to your luxury lodge by the sea north of Durban. Relax and enjoy the beach and the Indian Ocean. Next day you'll tour the architectural splendor of the City of Durban, with the Professor of Architecture, University of Natal. You'll visit some of the City's most beautiful and historic buildings and National Monuments. Overnights are at the Beverly Hills.
Day 3: Depart this morning for Himeville in the Southern Drakensberg mountains. Walking tour of San (Bushman) rock art, with picnic lunch.
Day 4: Full day's personalized tour in a 4 x 4 private vehicle to the top of Sani Pass, including a visit to a home in Lesotho and lunch at the highest pub in Africa. Overnights are at Moorcroft Manor.
Day 5: This morning you'll depart for Spioenkop, site of a famous battle in the Anglo-Boer War, where the resident battlefield specialist will bring the fields alive. Overnight at Spionkop Lodge.
Day 6: Today a grand tour with expert guide to Ladysmith, the site of the famous Battle of Blood River, the Talana Museum at Dundee and on to Isandlwana.
Day 7: Another specialist will take you on a historic tour, recapturing in rich detail the battles of Isandlwana, where the British suffered a major defeat, and Rorke's Drift where 11 Victoria Crosses were awarded, the highest of any battle in history. Overnights at Isandlwana Lodge.
Day 8: At leisure before transfer to Shakaland near the site of King Shaka's original kraal. Here you'll step back in time and experience the culture and traditions of the great Zulu nation. Overnight at Shakaland.
Days 9 - 10: After breakfast and a dynamic demonstration of spear-making and throwing, you'll leave history behind and head for the pristine conservation area which is the Phinda private game reserve. Here you'll experience the peace and tranquillity of the bush and come to understand the real magic of Africa. Game viewing and relaxation is the order of the next two days, with luxury accommodation and superb cuisine thrown in for good measure. Overnights are spent at Phinda.
Day 11: After an early morning game drive and breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to the bush. En route to Durban, you'll enjoy a relaxing cruise on Lake St Lucia, part of the Greater St Lucia World Heritage Site, and home to hundreds of hippos, crocodiles and an abundance of birdlife. Transfer to Durban Airport to connect with your flight home.
