Any visitor to this region of East Africa cannot fail to be awed by this mountain, standing majestically on the border of two great countries. You have seen all the photos and dreamt about doing it, so now you too can experience the thrill of climbing this awesome pinnacle of Africa's mountains.
The Park lies in an area that is one of the few places in Africa to be covered by continuous rainforest. Though there are no roads, there are several hiking trails which are quite popular with hikers.
To climb the mountain, the ascent and descent takes between five and nine days. The mountain can be climbed by any normally fit person, with the assistance of a guide and porters. The park has six hiking routes through the Kilimanjaro Forest Reserve. With an area of 756 square kilometers, Kilimanjaro Nation Park gazetted in 1973, exists to preserve the mountain’s outstanding scenic features and its flora and fauna.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Met on arrival in Arusha, transferred to the hotel for meals and overnight opportunity to sort out climbing gear.
Day 2: After breakfast transfer to Marangu gate at Kilimanjaro where you will meet your mountain guide and porters. Fill in climbers’ book to begin climb to Mandara hut. Climbing through lush rain forest on the way. Meals and overnight at Mandara huts. Distance 12kms, duration 4 hours, altitude 2743m.
Day 3: A steep walk through the upper part of the rain forest, followed by section of grass land . The moorlands proper soon start and you cross in a north- westerly direction to Horombo huts for meals and overnight Distance 14km, duration 5hours, altitude 3657m.
Day 4: Stars out early, passing the cactus area, and reaching the last watering place in about an hour. From here is about two hours of changing scenery to Kibo saddle and abroad desert zone between the two peaks of Kibo and mawenzi. Meals and overnight at Kibo huts, Distance 13kms, duration 5 hours, altitude 4,709m
Day 5: The start of the summit is made in early hours and you now attempt the steepest and most demanding part of the route which takes you to Gillman’s point at 5,680m. if snow condition permit you start the final push to Uhuru peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,896m there you could open a bottle of wine 0 and cheers why not meals and overnight at Horombo huts. Distance 8 kms duration 8 hours altitude 5896m.
Day 6: Descending to Marangu gate, drive to Arusha and arrive at Arusha at hotel and in time and overnight at the hotel.
Day 7: Day at leisure, transfer to airport or join in a further tour.
