The beginning is in the province of Guipúzcoa, close to France. Walking west across the Cantabric cornice. Sometimes there is a crossing with the path of Santiago and sometimes with the GR. It is a rich itinerary, walking between the towers from where they were surveying whales in the 17th Century. The road book explains the story of the whalers and some anecdotes of this place.

Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival and accommodation in a centric 3* hotel.
Day 2: 14,9 Km. After breakfast take the chance to visit this town with strong fishing traditions. Admire the colorful houses of the fishermen in the Marina area. From here there is a pleasant coastal 700m walk along the beach until you reach the sportive and fishing harbor. Visit the Higuero lighthouse, the Sanctuary and the fortification of Guadalupe, where there is the Virgin that the local people have adored since the 16th C. The walk continues down to the old town qualified as “ historical-artist monument”. By the main street “Calle Mayor” we continue the route to Plaza Armas, square dominated by the Castle of the Emperor Carlos V which is now a National Parador. Back to your hotel.
Day 3: 17,9 Km. Breakfast. Before the walk, leave your luggage at reception. The track passes the old watch- whale towers of the 16th and 17th centuries. On the right we have ocean views all the way along the cliffs of 240m high of Jaizkibel. Pasajes de San Juan is another picturesque coastal town with long commercial and fishing traditions. In 1843 Victor Hugo, the Romantic poet spent one summer here and described the scenery as “a life, a sunny moment, a blue, an air and an avoidable happiness”. Accommodation in an agro tourism house.
Day 4: 11 Km. After breakfast, keep on the pathway along the vertical cliffs of the Ulia mount. You will reach the lighthouse of El Faro de la Plata which indicates the entrance to the international passenger port. Ulia’s surroundings are integrated in the conservational coordination of European areas (Red Natura 2000). There is a preserved watchtower for the whales. Finally, as we are approaching San Sebastian, there is a German bunker from the second world war. Accommodation in a charming pension in town center.
Day 5: Day free to explore the many delights of this beautiful city. Do not miss anything: the destroyed castle of Mota and the museum of the Urgull mount and the statue of the Christ of Sagrado Corazón; the "Two Stranded Rocks" of the conference center palace, the Naval Museum and the Aquarium, the BIG (international gastronomy library, the Ethnographic museum of San Telmo, the quay with the ruins of the fortification protecting the city, the Neo-gothic style Cathedral of the Buen Pastor, the old Miramar Royal Palace and the scultures “Al viento” from Chillida at the end of the Ondarreta beach. Accommodation in charming pension in town center.
Day 6: 15,6 Km. Leave your luggage at the reception desk. This stage start in the building shape as a yacht in the Real Club Nàutic and walk along the Concha bay to the foot of the Igeldo mount. A nice walk will bring you to the top of the hills and through small caves to the doors of Orio. In the old city there are stone buildings coming from the Igeldo mount with sandy texture. The streets are narrow and on the main street there is the San Nicolás de Bari church. Accommodation is in a rural house.
Day 7: 8,30 km. Breakfast. You will go to Zarautz, an obligatory stop for the pilgrims on their route to Santiago de Compostela. There is the largest beach of Guipuzkoa (2.500m). The path will drive you Getaria, a fishing harbor. Big and solitary it appears the Ratón de Getaria, an ancient island that is connected to the harbor since the 15th Century. Each 4 years, there is a popular theatrical show remembering the landing of Juan Sebastián el Cano, the first sailor going all over the world with the Expedition going through Magallanes. Another local citizen known world wide, the “an architect in high couture” Cristobal Balenciaga has a museum devoted to him showing some of his creations. In Getaria, you have completed the itinerary! Accommodation in rural house.
Day 8: Breakfast and check out.
