Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Puerto Varas
Arrive into the airport in Santiago where you will take a national flight of approximately 1 hour, 20 minutes down to the city of Puerto Montt, the northern gateway to Patagonia. You will have a 30-minute transfer to the lakeside town of Puerto Varas where you can check into the Hotel Cabañas del Lago with a view of Lake Llanquihue and the Osorno, Calbuco and Tronador volcanoes. You will have the remainder of the afternoon free to relax and explore this quaint town with its numerous shops and beautiful lakeshore.
Day 2: Puerto Varas
After breakfast you will be able to enjoy an excursion of your choice, examples being: (1) Full day trip to the island of Chiloe, where you will experience the unique culture and architecture, including the construction of houses over the water known as “palafitos”; (2) Full day trip through the Perez Rosales National Park, Petrohue Falls and on to Lake Todos Los Santos, where you will take a catamaran across the lake, with unbeatable views of both the Osorno and Puntiagudo Volcanoes, to Peulla, where you can have lunch (price not included in the tour) and optional activities before returning to Puerto Varas.; (3) Whitewater rafting (level III) on the Petrohue River; (4) Canyoning down some of the many waterfalls in the area; (5) Various full day trekking trips among other activities. Overnight back in Puerto Varas.
Day 3: Glacier Fjord, near Puyuhuapi
Today you will have a transfer back to the airport for your flight farther south to the airport in Balmaceda, on the pampa east of the Northern Ice Field. You will be met by someone from the Puyuhuapi Lodge and Spa for your trip through forests, alongside snow-capped peaks, through dense valleys and by numerous waterfalls to the lodge, which will take most of the rest of the day. Your first stop is in the city of Coyhaique, the capital of the Aysen Region. After a brief visit of the city you will continue along the Carretera Austral, or Southern Highway (mostly a dirt road through the forest), arriving after approximately 5 hours to the Union River boat dock, where you will take a 10-minute ride across the fjord to the lodge, your destination for the next 3 nights.
Day 4: Glacier Fjord, near Puyuhuapi
The Puyuhuapi Lodge and Spa offers a multitude of activities for you to experience today and tomorrow, including walking on trails through the rainforest, visiting the Queulat National Park and witnessing its Hanging Glacier, bicycling down the Carretera Austral, and sea kayaking in the Dorita Bay. After your day’s activities, you can enjoy the Spa facilities, including the large hydro-massage pool, Jacuzzis with thermal as well as sea water, outdoor hot spring pools and the sauna, not to mention various spa treatments. There’s no hurry to experience everything, save some for tomorrow!
Day 5: Glacier Fjord, near Puyuhuapi
Today you will have another full day to enjoy the lodge, its majestic surroundings and all the activities and facilities available.
Day 6: Puerto Chacabuco
This morning you will have a 7:00 am departure aboard the catamaran Patagonia Express for your full day excursion to the San Rafael Lagoon and Glacier. The navigation will take around 6 hours over the transparent waters, surrounded by thick forests and the imposing Andes Mountains to the east. You should have opportunities to witness Chilean Dolphins swimming alongside the catamaran. Then you will enter the Iceberg River which is the entrance to the San Rafael Lagoon. You will spend around 2 hours in front of the glacier, then continue to Puerto Chacabuco, arriving around 10:30 pm, where you will stay for the night.
Day 7: International flight, or trip extension
After breakfast you will have a transfer back to the airport in Balmaceda for your flight to Santiago via Puerto Montt in time to make your international connection. Have a safe trip home! Extend your trip by including such destinations as Santiago, Torres del Paine National Park, a Glacier's Cruise to Cape Horn, Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls, or many more.
