Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Buenos Aires. On arrival we will meet the guests in the airport and provide assistance with immigration and customs formalities. Subsequent transfer to airport “Jorge Newbery” (the domestic airport of Buenos Aires, also called “Aeroparque”) for flight to San Carlos de Bariloche. A tour guide will meet fishermen on arrival and escort them all the way to estancia Arroyo Verde (about 1 hour drive). The “estancia” (this is how big estates are commonly called in Argentina) Arroyo Verde is located on the scenic road from Bariloche to San Martín de los Andes, its 8.000 hectares spread out over the valley of Traful river down to the mouth of the homonymous lake.
The Traful is one of the best rivers in the southern hemisphere to practice fly fishing. As well, it holds several world records in the fishing of landlocked Atlantic salmon, and it has also excellent populations of Brown and Rainbow trout and some Brook trout. The farmhouse is carefully built in autochthonous wood and its wide windows allow great sights of the Valle Encantado and Lago Traful. Meals are prepared by host Meme Lariviere. Apart from fly fishing Arroyo Verde offers horse riding along Valle Encantado, super hare shooting, trekking, sightseeing, navigations, as well as many other close by attractions.
Days 2-5: San Carlos de Bariloche. Three full day fishing in river and lake Traful, in streams and adjacent rivers. Overnight in Estancia Arroyo Verde, including full board. The guide will provide advice to fish in one chosen section of the river. He will go scouting other areas close by in order to increase the opportunities of catching the big ones. Return to the lodge for lunch and siesta. In the afternoon, fishing in a different section of the river. Return to lodge for cocktails, dinner and overnight.
Days 6-7: San Martín de Los Andes. Breakfast and check out from Arroyo Verde. Transfer to the meeting point where the guide is awaiting to start floating over Aluminé river. 2 full day fishing (camping out for one night). Aluminé is one of the best rivers for fishing in Patagonia. We recommend to bring “Streamers”, “Wooly worms”, “Wooly buggers” or muddlers, “Nymphs” (these are highly effective the whole season long, the small ones (12 to 14) can be as effective as big ones like “Bitch Creek” or “Montana Nymph” (4 to 8) and in the daytime “Spruce Flies” and “Mickey Finn” are very good too, in late hours.
“Black bunnies” offer the best chance to catch one of the “big” ones. Dry flies in sizes 6-16 such as “Royal Wulff”, Adams and Humpies are a must in both rivers the middle of the season onwards.
The Aluminé holds different kinds of salmonids, rainbow and brown trouts, and occasionally perches. Though the average weight of fish is around 2 pounds it is not less common to catch “big” ones weighing 6 or 8 pounds. This is something to bear in mind when choosing the tippet for the leader. On the evening of day 6, disembarkation and transfer to “La Cheminee” Inn, in San Martín de los Andes. Check in and accommodation.
Day 8: San Martín de Los Andes to Buenos Aires. Breakfast. Free until fixed time for pick up and transfer to the airport of Chapelco to board on flight back to Buenos Aires.
