Dog sledding and camping in pristine wilderness, in Jack London's Yukon, along the famous Yukon Quest trail. Based at Muktuk Kennels on the Takhini River, just 30 minutes from downtown Whitehorse. Expert guides, finest quality dogs and equipment, and superb home-cooked meals.

Your Itinerary

Day 1:
We’ll meet your flight and bring you to the ranch. First you’ll meet our very friendly huskies, especially your team. The guide will give you an orientation to our dogs and equipment Spend the rest of the evening getting to know your guide, the history of our dogs and the Yukon Quest. Settle into your cozy cabin.

Day 2:
Our dogs are very powerful – probably the strongest dogs in the Quest, pound for pound – and you will soon see and feel that power in action as you head out on your first run, along the Takhini River or our training trails, with a guide. You’ll learn how to harness a team, how to "boot up" a team, how to brake, how to balance and steer a sled on corners, and other basics of driving a team.

Day 3:
Today you will have a chance to try a slightly longer run, running up to the Dawson Trail, an historic wagon trail route from the Gold Rush days. The Dawson Trail meanders across all sorts of terrain and through spectacular landscape.

Day 4:
Like people, dogs prefer variety, and need to rest occasionally. While the dogs take a "day off," you have a chance to experience some of the other wonderful adventures the Yukon has to offer. Ice-fishing, skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling await your exploration. However, keen mushers can take out a second team.

Day 5:
Today you can try an overnight run to a nearby secluded lake, traveling through pristine, silent wilderness. The guide will set camp and prepare a fine meal. You can help feed and care for the dogs just as mushers in long distance races do. As you drift off to sleep under a shimmering aurora borealis, you may hear the haunting howls of your K-9 companions – and perhaps the answering song of the wolf.

Day 6:
After a hearty breakfast, you can do some exploring or ice-fishing, before driving the team back home. There a relaxing cedar sauna awaits. On Friday, you will catch your flight home – or you can stay an extra day to do some shopping in town, and stay at the High Country Inn!

Day 7:
On Friday, you will either catch your flight home or you stay an extra day to do some shopping in town, and stay at the High Country Inn!
