You may just discover that magical feeling that gets mushers "hooked" on the race. You'll see what it's like to be a "distance" musher, driving your own dog-team, with one of our expert guides. This tour usually involves 3 to 5 days on the trail, but can be modified to suit individual needs.
On this tour, you will travel along the new Quest Trail, on the Takhini River, then along the historic Dawson Trail, an historic wagon trail route from the Gold Rush days, to Braeburn, one of the official checkpoints for the Yukon Quest. For most of this trek, you will travel the same trail as the Quest mushers and camp out on the trail, just as the racing mushers do. After Braeburn, you will leave the new Quest and head towards Coghlin Lake, which used to be an unofficial stop on the old Quest Trail. There you can stay in an old cabin, or camp out on the trail, before travelling up Lake Laberge, to the Yukon River, up to where the Takhini River flows in, then back up the Takhini to Muktuk. Once back at the kennels, you can relax in the sauna, or soak in the Takhini Hotsprings, and share your tales from the two famous trails. On camping trips, you will have a good chance of seeing northern lights, aurora borealis. There is no experience quite like it. In this picture, you will see the more common "green lights." If you are really lucky, you may see red or purple lights as well. Notes: * Included
