Proceed to Aberdares National Park Kenya's central highlands a home of either of the following tree hotels. The Aberdare Mountain Range is a fascinating region of Kenya. The mountain ranges and peaks soar to around 12,900ft (3,930m) giving way to deep V-shaped valleys with streams and rivers cascading over spectacular waterfalls all of them a beauty to behold. The Ark The base hotel for the Ark is the Aberdare Country Club. After lunch, you take a 45-minute game drive through the Aberdares forest to reach The Ark Hotel. The Ark overlooks the Yasabara waterhole and the largest salt lick in the Aberdare Mountains, which are the haunt of a variety of forest game unequaled in Africa including elephants, rhinos, buffalos, bush bucks, giant forest hogs, Sykes monkeys, leopards, and bongos.
This tree-lodge has a unique design with decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide superb vantage points for viewing the animals visiting the salt lick and waterhole. A ground-level bunker provides excellent photographic opportunities, and the Yasabara waterhole is flood lighted by night to enable all night viewing of game. Treetops The base hotel for Treetops is the Outspan Hotel in Nyeri town. After lunch, drive through the Aberdares forest and enjoy game viewing en route to Treetops Hotel.
This world-renowned rustic tree hotel that is dedicated to game viewing and strategically sited in front of a watering hole and salt lick. These attract many animals, which you can view from the safety of four viewing decks and a rooftop platform in the hotel. You can also capture the animals on camera from two photographic hides at ground level. Queen Elizabeth was a young and beautiful princess when she went with her husband, Prince Philip, to visit Kenya. She spent the night at the famed Treetops hotel in Nyeri. During the night, her father passed. She received the news of her father's death, and although she went to bed a princess, she woke up a Queen.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Nairobi-Samburu. Depart Nairobi through Kikuyu countryside pass near Thika which boasts the world's third largest pineapple plantation and Karatina the second largest open air market in Africa. Drive further north across the equator to Samburu National Reserve past Mount Kenya, eventually heading north to a dusty outpost known as Isiolo. From here it's a fairly short hop to arrive at around 1400 ours in time for lunch. After lunch proceed for an afternoon game drive in the park famous as the place for the Samburu semi-nomadic tribesmen, the reticulated giraffe, the Gravy's zebra gerenuk, beisa Oryx and a host of the big game including elephant and lion. Meals and overnight at a Samburu Serena Lodge. Includes: (L, D).
Day 2: Samburu. Full day in Samburu, This extraordinary region of Kenya is characterized by a vast, open landscape including forests, rock outcroppings, dried riverbeds, thorn scrubs, red dirt and volcanic rock. You may observe Africa’s rarest game including the long-necked gerenuk, Somali ostrich, the shy beisa oryx and the reticulated giraffe. All meals and overnight at a Samburu Serena Lodge. Day 3: Samburu-Mt Kenya. After breakfast, depart for the Mt Kenya region. Lunch will be at a base hotel from where you will be transferred to your tree lodge surrounded by forest and overlooking an illuminated waterhole and salt lick. Enjoy the unique experience of all night and unlimited game viewing. A spacious veranda also overlooks the waterhole for game viewing there is never a dull moment. Dinner and overnight at Serena Mountain Lodge. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 4: Mt. Kenya-Nakuru. After breakfast, transfer to base hotel for onward journey to the floor of The Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park making a brief stop at Nyahururu Thomson Falls and arriving in Nakuru in time for lunch. Lake Nakuru National Park, which has a fantastic array of bird life. Seasonally up to a million flamingos reside along the lake shore giving the lake a pink hue. The view of so many birds is very rewarding and appears almost unreal. The hills surrounding the lake give an almost perfect silhouette and are home to lions, leopards, cheetahs and buffalos. This Park is also a sanctuary for both the black and the white rhino – it is relatively small in size so it makes it easier to spot all these animals. Also found in the park is the rare Rothschild giraffe, water bucks and Burchell’s zebra. The height of this game drive is a climb (by car) up the "baboon cliffs". They offer a scenic panorama of the lake below, surrounded by a vast tract of euphorbia and acacia forest. Makalia falls within the park is an additional attraction. After lunch proceed for an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight stay Lake Nakuru Lodge over looking the lake Lake Nakuru National Park. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 5: Nakuru-Maasai Mara. Depart Lake Nakuru in the morning and drive further along the floor of the Rift Valley to Maasai Mara Game Reserve.Descend the escarpment to Narok, a small town on the valley floor proceed to Masai Mara to be in time for lunch at a Lodge in Masai Mara. After lunch relax and have an afternoon game drive. Return to an archetypal Mara lodge/tented camp for sundowners, dinner and overnight stay at Mara Sopa Lodge. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 6: Maasai Mara. Full day in Maasai Mara, Kenya's most popular game sanctuary where you will have the best opportunity of spotting the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant). The Mara reserve is 1510 sq km of incredible wide-open landscapes and fertile riverine woodland following the looping meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers. Wherever you go in the Mara you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as Masai giraffe, baboons, warthogs, bat eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala, hartebeests, wildebeest. Zebras and hippos also exist in great numbers. It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal, or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but are still reasonably common. An optional visit to a local Maasai village. All meals and overnight stay at Mara Sopa Lodge. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 7: Maasai Mara - Nairobi. After breakfast, return to Nairobi with a game drive en route to arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon. Includes: (B).
