Drive through central Kenya traversing the Central province to the lower slopes of Mount Kenya, staying overnight at Serena Mountain Lodge, the tree hotel standing on the slopes of the snowcapped mountain for overnight floodlight game viewing. Central Province is the home of the Mau Mau resistance which gained Kenya its independence, as well as the birthplace of Jomo Kenyatta, the first President of Kenya. Most importantly however, Central Province boasts as a home of Aberdare National Park as well as the majestic Mount Kenya. Then proceed further north across the equator to the rugged landscapes of Samburu National Reserve, home to rarely found species for a 2 night stay, before heading down to Sweet waters Game Reserve, a private reserve with lots of wildlife including a Chimpanzee sanctuary. Then proceed down to the floor of the Great Rift Valley to - Lake Nakuru National Park famous for flamingos, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild's giraffe, black and white rhino.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Nairobi–Mountain Lodge. After breakfast drive through Kikuyu countryside pass near Thika which boasts the world's third largest pineapple plantation and Karatina the second largest open air market in Africa. Road that takes you through Nyeri arriving Serena Mountain Lodge the longest waterfall in Kenya 96 meters. You will arrive Serena Mountain Lodge a tree hotel in time for lunch.Located on the slopes of Mount Kenya, the lodge is surrounded by a dense rain forest that comes alive at dusk with a myriad of sounds that makes the African bush so special and exhilarating. Considered the most spectacular forest water hole in the Aberdares, the lodge’s waterhole presents a constant ballet of wildlife. The lodge has 42 attractive bedrooms furnished with indigenous wood and African art, each with private bathroom. A spacious veranda also overlooks the waterhole for game viewing there is never a dull moment. Dinner and overnight at the tree hotel. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 2 Mountain Lodge-Samburu Game Reserve. Depart after breakfast and drive further north across the equator to Samburu National Reserve past Mount Kenya, eventually heading north to a dusty outpost known as Isiolo. From here it's a fairly short hop to your destination to arrive at around 1400 ours in time for lunch. After lunch proceed for an afternoon game drive in the park famous as the place for the Samburu semi-nomadic tribesmen, the reticulated giraffe, the Gravy's zebra gerenuk, beisa Oryx and a host of the big game including elephant and lion. Meals and overnight at Samburu lodge, arriving Samburu Serena Lodge in time lunch. Afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 3: Samburu. Full day in Samburu, with an early morning and late afternoon game drive. Samburu is a beautiful and and game abundant park, home to rarely found species such as the Beisa Oryx, Grevy's zebra, blue-necked Somali ostrich and reticulated giraffe. Optional activities include a visit to a local Samburu village, camel riding and guided nature and bird walks. All meals and overnight at a Samburu Lodge. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 4: Samburu-Sweetwaters Game Sanctuary. Depart Samburu after breakfast and drive back to the lower slopes of Mount Kenya - arriving Sweetwaters Tented Camp in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive in the private sanctuary (Sweetwaters Game Reserve), This very special 23,000 acre wildlife sanctuary was originally established to protect and breed highly-endangered Black Rhinos. In 1994 the Jane Goodall Institute established the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary within the game reserve and moved a large group of chimps here from the unstable situation in their native Wes including a visit to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only one of its kind in Kenya. You will also visit Morani the tame rhino and the Visitors Information Centre.Return to Sweetwaters Tented Camp for dinner and overnight (with an optional night game drives). Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 5: Lake Nakuru. After breakfast drive down to the floor of the Rift Valley - to Lake Nakuru National Park, making a brief stop at Nyahururu Thomson Falls. Arrive Sarova Lion Hill Lodge in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive in the park. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild's giraffe, black and white rhino, water buck, reed buck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game. Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru lodge. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 6: Maasai Mara. Depart after breakfast and drive further along the floor of the Rift Valley to Maasai Mara, arriving tented luxury camp/lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive as you get a feel of this vast game filled reserve. Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 7: Maasai Mara. Spend two days in Maasai Mara, Kenya's most popular game sanctuary where you will have the best opportunity of spotting the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant). There will also be an optional visit to a local Maasai village. All meals and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge. Includes: (B, L, D).
Day 8: Masai Maara to Nairobi. Depart Maasai Mara after breakfast, driving back to Nairobi to arrive approx 1300hrs. Drop at your hotel or transfer to the airport for onward flight home. Includes: (B).
