Muktuk offers 1-hour and full-day dog-sledding tours for people who want to try mushing. You can take one or more of these trips, and stay at a hotel in town, or you can stay in a cabin or guest room at the kennels.

The Muktuk ranch is located at km 1442.5 on the Alaska Highway, approximately 25 minutes from downtown Whitehorse.

Your daytrip will take you along the Yukon or Takhini Rivers, and training trails close to the ranch. The area is very beautiful – secluded and silent – and the river trails follow part of the actual Yukon Quest trail.

When you first arrive, you will meet our very friendly huskies. You will have a chance to visit with our Quest dogs, and you may see some of them take off on their training run. Then you will get an orientation to the dogs, the equipment and the fine art of driving a dog team.

One of our guides will accompany you on your run, providing you with training, support and assistance in driving the team. There will be one guide for every two to four clients. You can learn how to harness and "bootie" your team, how to brake, how to balance and steer the sled, and other basics of driving a sled-dog team.

Our dogs are very powerful – probably the strongest dogs in the Quest pound for pound – and you will get to see and feel that power in action as you head out on your introductory run. After the run, there is an option to spend some time learning about the history of our dogs and the Yukon Quest.

For guests who want a more extensive introduction to the sport of mushing, Muktuk offers a special full-day Introduction to Mushing. Participants arrive at the kennels at 9:30 in the morning, join in morning preparations, then follow the regular day-trip schedule. After that, participants can help with the evening feeding. The day ends with a short video and a hearty home-cooked dinner. Guests will return to their hotel by 9:30pm. This option must be booked at least 10 days in advance.

Notes:
Airfare is not included in the tour price.

Day Trips: $175 to $250 per person.
