Hoonah provides abundant wildlife viewing opportunities both from the water and from the road system. Eagles congregate by the hundred in late May and early June feeding on the schools of herring that move in to spawn in the shallow bays and inlets in the area. Sea lions, seals, deer, bear and a myriad of sea birds are common sights in the area. We see most if not all of the available species on a single day cruise of the local waters.
From May through September humpback whales are constantly cruising the local waters and make for a wonderful experience watching them play, feed and frolic. On occasions when our travels take us out from town playful sea otters are often spotted satisfying their voracious appetites on shellfish and crab. We commonly find a brown bear or two picking their way along the shoreline in search of a meal. These beautiful animals are symbols of the raw and unspoiled wilderness that is Alaska. Notes: Costs are on a per person basis and start at $165 for 1/2 day trips to $220 for our full day trips.
