This tour follows the N2 Highway over Sir Lowry's Pass to Botrivier in the Overberg. Branching off for Hermanus we pass the villages of Fisherhaven, situated on the Fisherhaven Lagoon, Hawston, Onrust and Vermont the former home to many famous south African authors. Hermanus is a laid-back yet thriving town boasting excellent fishing and a historical old harbor.
The old town, originally a leper colony, characterized by square buildings with thatched roofs and white-wash from crushed shells found in abundance on the beach at Walker Bay, no longer exists. The town is now famous for its Whale Route in season having its own whale crier. Viewing points along the towns beautiful cliffs affords one incredible up-close sights of these wonderful mammals of mother and baby alike.
Whale watching is now one of the most popular tours as well as being regarded as being on par with the "Big Five". Other famous features are the Fernkloof Nature Reserve and the Perlemoen (Abalone) Industry and the lagoon of the Kleinriviersvlei. Back tracking the route we return to Cape Town. Best time for Whale viewing September - November.
