The overnight snowshoeing tour will really take you into the wilderness and a night in a basic but cosy cabin without electricity will surely be memorable. Every night you can relax in a genuine Finnish sauna. If you are lucky the dance of the magical Northern Lights on the night sky will top off your Finnish winter adventure! Itinerary: Day 1 Arrival Arrival at Kuusamo airport where your guide will be welcoming you. A 45 minutes’ transfer to Kylmäluoma where check in at log cabins and dinner at the restaurant. Day 2 Cross-country skiing In the morning there will be an introduction about the area and the program. After lunch we will learn the basics of cross-country skiing which is one of the most popular winter hobbies in Finland. Then we will test our skiing skills practically and make a short tour through the flat pine forest and over the lakes. We may see some reindeer which are a common sight here. The area offers a wide range of well-prepared ski tracks both easy and more challenging ones with ups and downs so after the tour together you can ski on your own as well. Day 3 Snowshoeing This morning we will set off for our overnight snowshoeing tour. After a short introduction we will start the excursion straight from the cabins. The trail goes through the beautiful snow covered pine, spruce and birch forests. Halfway we will take a picnic lunch around an open fire. In the afternoon we will arrive at the Hukantupa wilderness cabin where we will accommodate for the next night. In the evening it is nice to relax in the sauna heated with a wood-burning stove. Hukantupa does not have electricity and accommodation is in dormitory rooms. Day 4 Snowshoeing After breakfast we will go on snowshoeing along the ridges and on the lakes. The surrounding forests are home for many animals like elks, wolfs, lynxes and hares but unfortunately they are seldom seen. Also bears inhabit the area but in winter they hibernate A picnic lunch will be enjoyed around the fire. Our snowshoeing excursion will be completed when we return to the cabins. Day 5 Igloo building Today we build an igloo. By shovels and spades we make a big pile of snow which will be hollowed out afterwards. It is also possible to sleep in the igloo which you make! Day 6 Optional activities Free day for optional activities. Options include some more cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Winter fishing is also possible. Day 7 Husky farm After breakfast there is a transfer to husky farm. On arrival at the farm, we will be greeted by owner who will explain about the life and training of the huskies. He will also give us a sled driving lesson, and then it’s off into the wilderness! We’ll drive a tour through snow-white forests and frozen lakes enjoying the pure nature and silence. Two people take it in turns to sharing driving their own sledge with 4 dogs unless they wish only to sit in the sledge and enjoy the scenery. The lunch will be enjoyed during the tour. After the tour transfer back to cabins. On the way we can stop for shopping at the village of Taivalkoski. Farewell dinner will be enjoyed in the evening. Day 8 Return Breakfast at the hotel.
