11 day trip, 8-9 days kayaking. Grade: Moderate+ .Departure: 23 June-3 July.
We will visit the wild places of Scotland from Oban to Skye, the Outer Hebrides, Orkneys and the Shetland Islands. Small windswept specks to the magical peaks of St Kilda. Scotland’s rugged islands and intricate waterways are a paradise for sea kayakers. Tremendous birdlife, dramatic scenery, protected sea lochs, huge cliffs and sea stacks, and remarkable history and culture are treats that await us. Using our mothership Polar Pioneer as a floating base camp, we’ll voyage among the hundreds of remote, unspoiled islands that fringe the west and north coasts of Scotland. With long summer days, we’ll spend as much time kayaking as possible and delight in taking advantage of spontaneous opportunities on this expedition-style journey. We’ll visit World Heritage Neolithic sites, remote crofting communities, picturesque villages and castles that were once home to Scottish clans. We hope to paddle beneath the cliffs of some of the world’s largest seabird colonies, where gannets, fulmars, arctic terns and delightful puffins fill the air. Or sit quietly in our kayaks as seals play nearby in waters patrolled by whales and dolphins. Tour Itinerary: Meet at Oban, Scotland ~ DAY 1: Board mothership, set sail for Western Isles.
