In the space of a day you can find yourself moving from a game drive to gazing over the amazing scenery of the Escarpment or visiting some of the country's most historic towns.
Tour Itinerary.
Day 1.
Arrive in Johannesburg in the morning, collect your car and travel through Nelspruit to the White River area where you will be based for the following two nights at Cybele Forest Lodge, undoubtedly one of the countries finest. The lodge has been voted South Africa's Top Country Hotel, one of Tatler magazine's Top 50 Hotels in the World and one of British Airways' Favourite 37 Hotels of the World. It is beautifully situated in the heart of the forest, surrounded by mountains, meadows and vast timber plantations. Furnished throughout with antiques, art and exclusive fabrics, the main house is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a drink before sampling the lodges renowned excellent cuisine.
Day 2.
At leisure to enjoy the facilities on offer and indulge in the lodges' exceptional service. Cybele Forest is designed for total relaxation but for the more adventurous there is horse riding, trout fishing and superb walks.
Days 3-4.
Leave the tranquillity of the Lodge for the excitement of the Sabi Sands where you will be based for the next two nights at the exclusive family-run Nottens Bush Camp, a well kept secret in the heart of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. It is a very private, charming place known for its personal touch and superb cuisine offering warm African hospitality and the informal atmosphere of Nottens Bush Camp is reminiscent of early days as there is no electricity and paraffin lamps light the comfortable en-suite chalets.
There is a sparkling swimming pool to relax in or time to simply enjoy spectacular views from the wooden deck overlooking a vast plain and a waterhole with frequent sightings of game coming to drink. The wildlife is abundant including the "Big Five" which can be viewed on game drives conducted in open land rovers or during a bush walk.
Day 5.
After an early morning Game Drive leave Nottens for the stunning Escarpment and the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve. From here visit the delightful, historic town of Pilgrims Rest, the first proper gold-mining town in South Africa. Early evening arrive at Old Joe's Kaia in the Schoemanskloof Valley, a comfortable country house dedicated to excellent food and personal service.
Day 6.
After a wholesome breakfast, follow one of the lodges' walking trails or simply relax by the pool and view some of the 180 bird species that abound in the tranquil, subtropical gardens. Return to Johannesburg or stay another night!
