Start this full day historical tour at George Harrison Park where gold was discovered in 1886 on the farm Langlaagte. We then proceed to the to the top of Africa where a panoramic view of Johannesburg mine dumps, slimes dam and headgear can be seen. Continue to the historical and present financial district to see the buildings that bear mute evidence of the early gold mining days.
We proceed on to Gold Reef City a living museum depicting the early mining days in Johannesburg. Descend underground in a mine hoist at 14 shaft Crown Mines to see how gold was and is mined. Back on surface watch a gold pour and try your hand at lifting a solid gold bar. Traditional African mine dancing will be performed and a ride on the steam train should not be missed. Stroll through of the village and experience the excitement, glitt and the glamour of life in an early gold rush town. Return via the attractive northern suburbs including Park town with its gracious mansions built by the Rand Lords (Mining Magnates).
