On the Kenyan border and 25km north of Oldoinyo Lengai, Lake Natron is a 60km long alkaline lake known for the huge flocks of flamingos that gather here at the end of the rainy season. The lake has no outlet so its size varies dramatically depending on the time of year. Lake Manyara, which at certain times of year, hosts thousands of flamingos, as well as a diversity of other birdlife. Depending on the season, about two- thirds of the park’s total 330 sq km area is covered by the lake. Lake Eyasi is a salt lake at an altitude of about 1000m between the Eyasi escarpment in the north and the Kidero Mountains in the south.
