All Norman castles were first built in wood and you can visit such a castle at Stansted Mountfitchet (built 1066, rebuilt 1995). You will visit Bodiam (1385) in Sussex which is the epitome of what a castle should look like and among others Warwick (1067), Dover (1066) which also has a Roman lighthouse and a Saxon church, The tower of London (1067), and Windsor (1067) the oldest continously occupied castle in the world and the residence of Queen Elizabeth II.
You will also see other contemporary developments such as cathedrals and stately homes and (depending on the length of tour)could still have time to enjoy the leading attractions of London and much of South East England. Your route will take you through beautiful countryside, old English villages, and the walled City of Canterbury.
Notes:
- There can also be a one day tour of London
- You may choose a day out from London, a few days visiting castles, a week, ten days, or two weeks - it is up to you. In a two week tour your chauffeur will guide you through 12 castles, illustrating all the main development stages from the forbidding to the delightful.
Notes:
Airfare is not included in the tour price.
All tours are costed individually. The basic cost is 300 GBP per day (not per person)and this is for the driver/guide, the MPV which takes 6 passengers, and unlimited mileage.
