Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Juneau, Embark.
Today arrive in Juneau and transfer to the luxurious Goldbelt Hotel on the water front. Here is where the introductions to other enthusiastic travelers and a highly experience expedition leader will take place. Later drive out the lovely Mendenhall Glacier which flows down from the Juneau icecap in the high mountains north of town. In the evening all guests will embark the Safari Explorer which will anchor overnight in Funter Bay. Ship: Safari Explorer. Meals: (D).
Day 2: Glacier Bay National Park.
Today offers a discovering look into a National Park which is larger then the state of Connecticut. In the morning the Safari Explorer will cruise deep into Glacier Bay National Park to Marble Island. This island offers observation of its local wildlife inhabitants such as the ever so popular puffin, humpback whales, moose, mountain goats and even bears hunting for food along the shoreline. Later, cruise sixty miles up the bay close to Grand Pacific and Margerie Glaciers, which frequently clave icebergs into the bay. Here watch for seals swimming on ice. In the evening drop anchor in a secluded cove. Ship: Safari Explorer. Meals: (B), (L), (D).
Day 3: Whale Watching.
Cruise through the waters of Icy Strait just outside Glacier Bay National Park. These are prime whale viewing waters where humpback whales flip their tails to dive, spank their fins on the water, and occasionally even breach clear out of the water. The Safari Explorer’s expert Captain knows where the best wildlife watching is to be had. Enjoy a skiff ride near a pod of whales, which is a true delight of a yacht cruise adventure. Tuck into impossibly tiny coves, and get unimaginably close to waterfalls pouring from the cliffs above. Anchor overnight in Sitkoh Bay. Ship: Safari Explorer. Meals: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4: Frederick Sound & Sea Lions.
Drift around wilderness Admiralty Island to more prime humpback-viewing waters in Frederick Sound. Later, take time for skiff rides and sea kayaking in Saginaw Bay, and cruise up-close to a sea lion colony at the Brothers Islands. Anchor overnight in the tranquil Thomas Bay. Ship: Safari Explorer. Meals: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5: Rainforest Hiking & Petersburg.
Explore gorgeous trails in Tongass National Forest. As the day continues the Safari Explorer will dock in the picturesque little fishing village of Petersburg. This village was a prime early fishing centre for Alaska because free ice for cold storage washed up on the towns beaches. Later, cruise north to Stephens’s Passage which will be the anchor spot for the night. Kayak and skiff explorations are available after dinner. Ship: Safari Explorer. Meals: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6: Admiralty Island - Bears.
Today tuck into Gambler Bay, a large island speckled bay of water. This is where the kayaks and skiffs will be dropped down for an up close exploration of this cool forested bay. This thick evergreen forest crowds right down to the gravel beaches, where the opportunity exists to spot the huge brown or grizzly bear. At low tide the bears will be down on the beaches hunting shell fish. Later on watch for humpback whales once again, and anchor overnight in Wood Spit. Ship: Safari Explorer. Meals: (B), (L), (D).
Day 7: Ford's Terror & Endicott Arm.
Explore Cliff-walled fjords tucked into an area widely acclaimed as the most beautiful in all of Alaska. Snow gleams on mountaintops high overhead; as bears walk on the shoreline and mountain goats cling to perches. Every few hundred yards another sparkling waterfall tumbles down the cliffs. Enjoy a skiff ride at Ford’s Terror, named after an early mariner who was somewhat taken aback when a waterfall appeared at the turn of the tide where none had been visible at high tide. Anchor overnight at Taku Harbor to enjoy the Captain’s Farewell Dinner in a lovely setting. Ship: Safari Explorer. Meals: (B), (L), (D).
Day 8: Disembark in Juneau.
Transfer to airport. Meals: (B).
