Day 1: USA - Frankfurt. Depart from the United States on a regular scheduled flight to Frankfurt.
Day 2: Frankfurt - Eisenach - Weimar. Depart from Frankfurt in the morning and drive eastward to Eisenach, home of Wartburg Castle. Visit one of the most important buildings of German history and see the room where Martin Luther translated the New Testament in only eleven weeks. Afterwards, continue to Weimar, a cultural treasure where famous persons such as Goethe, Schiller, Liszt and Richard Strauss lived and worked. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at your hotel. Day 3: Weimar - Dresden. After breakfast, drive to Dresden, the capital of the Free State of Saxony. On a city tour, you will get to know one of the loveliest cities of central Europe. Due to its mild climate, Baroque architecture and renowned museums, Dresden is also called “Florence of the Elbe.” See the Semper Opera House, the Zwinger, the Green Vault and the restored Frauenkirche. Day 4: Dresden – Wittenberg - Potsdam - Berlin. Today you visit Wittenberg. According to legend, the Reformation started here when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the portal of the Castle Church on October 31, 1517. Afterwards, depart for Potsdam and the impressive courtyards of Sanssouci Palace, the former summer residence of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. In the late afternoon, you arrive in Berlin. Day 5: Berlin. During a city tour, you will see highlights of Germany’s capital, including the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the Victory Column, Palace Bellevue, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Checkpoint Charlie, remains of the Wall, Boulevard Unter den Linden, and the Berliner Dom. The afternoon is free for your own activities, such as strolling around Museum Island or shopping at the department store, KaDeWe. You may also choose to take a boat trip on the channel Spree. Day 6: Berlin - Hamburg. Today you head north to Hamburg. Enjoy all the main sites of this booming city including St. Michalis Church, St. Pauli quarter, Landungsbrucken, Speicherstadt, and the brand new HafenCity, before discovering Germany’s largest port on a typical harbor cruise. This evening is free. You may want to walk in the Reeperbahn, the amusement district. Overnight stay at Best Western Queens Hotel or similar. Includes: (B).
Day 7: Hamburg - Bremen - Hamelin. After breakfast, depart for the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, known for its trade and seafaring traditions. See “Roland” at the market square, the town hall, St. Peter’s Cathedral, and the bronze statue of Grimms’ Bremer Stadtmusikanten. After a walk through the narrow streets of Schnoor quarter, depart on the famous German Fairy Tale Route for Hamelin, a city known for the Pied Piper. Tonight, enjoy a 3-course dinner. Day 8: Hamelin - Frankfurt. Follow the Fairy Tale Route along the River Weser towards Hann.Muenden. Delight in the Renaissance style of this small and unique town before continuing on to Frankfurt. Additional stops may be made, weather and traffic conditions permitting. Your afternoon arrival in Frankfurt features a panoramic tour showcasing this traditional, yet modern city. Day 9: Frankfurt - Wuerzburg - Rothenburg. Depart from Frankfurt in the morning for a picturesque drive through the Spessart mountains to Wuerzburg, on the banks of the river Main. Enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent Residence, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Move along the world-famous Romantic Road to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany’s well-preserved “Jewel of the Middle Ages.” During a city walk, visit St. Jacob’s Church with the Holy Blood Altar by Tilman Riemenschneider, and experience the special flair of this unique town. Day 10: Rothenburg - Augsburg - Munich. Today you continue your trip along the Romantic Road, visiting the charming villages of Dinkelsbuehl and Noerdlingen before arriving in Augsburg. Then you go on to Munich, the capital of Bavaria. An orientation tour including Nymphenburg Castle and the Olympic Grounds will give you a first impression of this splendid city before you check in to your hotel. Enjoy an afternoon walk to the "Glockenspiel" (carillon) at Marienplatz and then an evening free for your own activities. Overnight stay at Hotel Rivoli or similar. Includes: (B).
Day 11: Munich – Garmish-Partenkirchen – Ettal - Oberammergau - Fuessen. Depending on weather conditions this day, you will drive to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, one of the most important wintersport towns in southern Germany, situated at the foot of "Zugspitze" mountain. You will then go on to the Benedictine abbey of Ettal and to Oberammergau, a village famous for its Passion Play and numerous buildings with tromp l’oeil (Lueftlmalerei) painted facades. On the way to today’s ultimate destination, Fuessen, you will also make a short stop at the glorious Rococo church in Wies. Overnight stay at the Luitpoldpark-Hotel or similar. Includes: (B).
Day 12: Fuessen – Hohenschwangau – Linderhof – Rottenbuch - Fuessen. From Fuessen it is only a short trip to Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein, the breathtaking fairytale castle of King Ludwig II. After a guided visit there, continue to Linderhof on a scenic Alps tour through Austria. Visit the monastery church Rottenbuch, a treasure of Rococo architecture, before returning to Fuessen. Day 13: Fuessen - Lindau - Lake Constance. In the morning, head to Lake Constance, a large body of water bordered by Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Enjoy a walking tour of the beautiful village of Lindau before continuing on to Konstanz. Check in to your hotel in the nearby city of Singen. Overnight stay at Holiday Inn Express or similar. Day 14: Lake Constance - Black Forest – Freiburg - Heidelberg. Today you enter the Black Forest, a region known for delicious cake, wooden cuckoo clocks, and spectacular landscapes. Enjoy a drive through the beautiful countryside towards the idyllic town of Freiburg. After a city tour, continue on to Heidelberg, where you will see the inner courtyard of the impressive castle and the wine cellar with its big barrel. Day 15: Heidelberg - Ruedesheim - Frankfurt. Leave Heidelberg in the early morning for the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its wines and vineyards. Board a steamer in Ruedesheim for a Rhine river cruise that will take you past fascinating castles, ruins and the legendary Loreley Rock. Your Motorcoach will await you in St. Goarshausen to bring you to Frankfurt, Germany’s financial capital, where your journey will end with a small panoramic city tour. Includes: (B).
