Tour Itinerary: Day 1: USA - Frankfurt. Depart on a regular scheduled flight from the U.S. to Frankfurt. Day 2: Frankfurt - Heidelberg - Triberg/Black Forest. Depart from Frankfurt in the morning and drive to Heidelberg for a walking tour of the old university town. Your next stop is at Baden-Baden, one of the most beautiful and well-known spa resorts in Germany. In the afternoon continue to the Black Forest, a region known for delicious cake, wooden cuckoo clocks, and spectacular landscapes. Welcome dinner this evening at the hotel. Overnight stay at Best Western Schwarzwald Residence or simliar. Includes: (D). Day 3: Triberg/Black Forest - Lake Constance – Neuschwanstein - Füssen. In the early morning, head to the Allgäu region, passing wonderful Lake Constance and stopping at the Basilica of Birnau, a real architectural treasure. See the fantastic Bavarian Alps before arriving in Hohenschwangau and visiting Neuschwanstein Castle, the fairy tale castle of King Ludwig II. Overnight stay at Luitpoldpark-Hotel or similar. Includes: (B). Day 4: Füssen - Oberammergau - Ettal - Munich. This morning you drive to Oberammergau, home of the famous Passion Play, performed once every 10 years. Stop at the glorious Rococo church in Wies and the Benedictine abbey of Ettal. Then it is on to Munich to enjoy an extensive city tour ending at the romantic Christmas market, where you can stroll about and shop. Overnight stay at Hotel Erzgiesserei or similar. Includes: (B). Day 5: Munich - Salzburg - Munich. Today enjoy a full day excursion to the city where the famous composer Mozart was born – Salzburg. Begin with a walking tour through the Old Town, taking in all the important sights - Mozarthouse, the Cathedral, the Getreidegasse and more. You will have free time to go exploring on your own, visiting the lovely Christmas market and sampling Mozartkugeln, the most famous sweet made in Salzburg. Return to Munich in the late afternoon. Overnight stay at Hotel Erzgiesserei or similar. Includes: (B). Day 6: Munich – Rothenburg ob der Tauber - Nuremberg. After breakfast drive along the Romantic Road to Rothenburg with some stops along the way. During a city walk, you will learn much about this charming, small medieval town. See the famous Jakobskirche with its spectacular altar by the famous woodcarver Tilman Riemenschneider. You will have some free time to enjoy the Christmas market and local shops, including its renowned Christmas Store. In the afternoon, continue on to Nuremberg. Overnight stay at Leonardo Hotel or similar. Includes: (B). Day 7: Nuremberg. Today enjoy "Christkindlesmarkt," arguably the most famous Christmas Market in the world. On a walking tour, you will see the main sights of Nuremberg, including the former home of the artist Albrecht Dürer. Visit the medieval Kaiserburg Castle before you have the rest of the day free for the Christmas Market and for shopping. This evening, you will be treated to a traditional Advent dinner. Overnight stay at Leonardo Hotel or similar. Includes: (B, D). Day 8: Nuremberg - Würzburg - Frankfurt. In the morning, leave for Würzburg. Enjoy a tour of the magnificent Residence, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture, and a visit to the local Christmas Market. Arrive in Frankfurt during the late afternoon. Overnight stay in a Frankfurt hotel. Includes: (B). Day 9: Frankfurt – Eisenach – Weimar - Leipzig. Depart from Frankfurt in the morning and drive eastward to Eisenach, dominated by Wartburg Castle. Continue via Weimar to Leipzig, where, after checking in at your hotel, you will visit one of Germany’s largest Christmas markets. Marvel at the enormous tree with its thousands of lights or stroll through the many stalls with handcrafted Christmas gifts from the region. Sample a typical hearty German style snack - bratwurst and mulled wine. Overnight stay at Ramada City Centre or similar. Includes: (B, D). Day 10: Leipzig – Meissen - Dresden. In the morning, travel to Meissen to tour one of Germany’s oldest porcelain factories. Founded in the 18th century, it has long been producing delicate, handcrafted products found in royal courts and celebrity homes worldwide. Meissen proudly restores and reproduces any previously cast products and many models that have been preserved throughout the centuries. Visit the exhibition hall and workshops where the entire process of the painting and glazing are explained to you. Continue on to Dresden, where you will enjoy a city tour. After checking-in at your hotel, visit the Dresden Christmasmarket, named “Striezelmarkt” after a local cake specialty. Highlights are the Christmas pyramid and the many stalls where you can sample the “Striezel.” Overnight stay at Park Inn or similar. Includes: (B). Day 11: Dresden – Annaberg – Schneeberg - Plauen. Today, travel along country roads to visit two ancient miner-villages, Schneeberg and Annaberg. These villages are typical for the Erzgebirge (ore-mountains) and are where the German traditions of woodcarving and Christmas pyramid-making originated. In older times, light – represented by candles - was an important symbol of life and safety for the miners, who worked in the dark tunnels. Demonstrating their deep religious beliefs, the woodcarvers used candles to illuminate the pyramids with saints and symbols from the Holy Night. The market in Annaberg dates back as far as 1510. In Schneeberg the main attraction aside from the market, is St. Wolfgang’s church. In the afternoon continue towards Plauen, a city famous for its handcrafted lace. Dinner will be served in your hotel. Overnight stay at Hotel Alexandra or similar. Includes: (B, D). Day 12: Plauen – Bamberg - Frankfurt. Pass through the Franconian forest to the imperial city of Bamberg. Founded in the 9th century, it has a nicely preserved Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). You will see the cathedral and the former Benedictine abbey of Michaelsberg before visiting the final Christmas market on this tour. Continue on to Frankfurt late in the afternoon. Overnight stay in a Frankfurt hotel. Includes: (B). Day 13: Frankfurt - USA. Following breakfast and hotel check-out, transfer on your own to the airport for a regular scheduled flight back to the United States.
