Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival to Sofia. Guide meets the group at Sofia airport, transfer to Sofia Princess htl /4 star/. Half day sightseeing tour of Sofia with visits of The Crypt of St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral, the National museum of history and Boyana Church, dated 1259, known for its 13th century murals, famous for their exceptional realism. Dinner at local restaurant in the city center (or at the hotel). Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Breakfast. Visit to the National Historical museum. Departure for Rila Monastery picturesque located in the heart of Rila Mountains. It is the most famous monument of Bulgarian culture from the National Revival period. Visit of the monastery complex and museum. Transfer to Plovdiv - Bulgaria’s second most important city, famous for the International fair which is held every May and September. Plovdiv is an extraordinary combination of monuments from different époques - from Philip II Macedonian until the present days. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight.
Day 3: Breakfast. Guided tour of the old part of the town – a reserve of Bulgarian National Revival period (19th century) visit of the ethnographic museum and the Roman amphitheater. In the afternoon visit to the Monastery of Bachkovo – the second biggest and beautiful in the country. Back to Plovdiv. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight.
Day 4: Breakfast. Transfer to the Rose valley. Accommodation at a 3 star hotel in the town of Kazanlak - where the festivities take place. Visit to the famous Kazanlak Thracian tomb – a unique monument from the Hellenic times, included in the list of World heritage of UNESCO. At 18.00 Gala dinner with authentic folklore program. At 20.00 Official opening of the Rose festival and crowning of Queen Rose 2009. Overnight.
Day 5:
07.00 Breakfast.
08:30 Rose picking ritual in a rose field near Kazanlak.
10:00 Rose distilling ritual and process in the Kulata Ethnographic complex with folklore dances and music; tasting of the original rose products - brandy, liquor and jam.
10:45 Visit to the Rose Museum with tasting herbal oils (mint, rose, lavender).
11:30 Carnival on the central square.
01:00 Lunch – BBQ.
03.30 Orthodox Christian songs concert in the Russian memorial cathedral in the town of Shipka. Departure for the town of Veliko Tarnovo. Accommodation at a 4 star hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Breakfast. Panoramic tour of Veliko Tarnovo - the ex-capital city of The Second Bulgarian Kingdom with visit of the historic Tzarevetz Hill and Fortress, the old town with the historical churches and stone houses. In the afternoon – a stroll in Arbanassi architectural museum village. Dinner in a restaurant with a nice view to the town of Veliko Turnovo. Overnight.
Day 7: Breakfast. Drive to Sofia, on the way visit the picturesque Troianski monastery. Transfer to Sofia airport for
the departure flight home.
